  • NBA-No plays but interesting trends...

I've got no bets to make so I thought I'd write about some things I look for in the NBA. You know, keep busy.....maybe it'll keep me from betting a 'coin toss'.

I love betting on or against teams when they're streaking in some extreme way. I'm always researching this stuff looking for something that's worth betting. I don't bet over /unders but I do watch for setups based on team streaks in over/unders. Here's a couple that I watch. These results are combined totals from 2001, 2002, and 2003.

I wanted to see what happens when a team goes over in 5 or more straight games. It happened 201 times in the three year period. ATS record was 110-91 for about 54%. But those units came in only one situation - away games. In all away games whether favorite or underdog these teams were 66-51 for 56%. Interesting. But look at what happens if they go over for 6 or more straight games and are favored in their next game home or away- 25-12. Interesting again but slim pickins for three years.

I found some stuff on unders too and it's better. Find a team that's gone under in it's last 5 or more games and tonight they're playing at home as the favorite or underdog. For the last 3 years these teams are 59-38 ATS. I'll bet that one.

I find better setups when teams are streaking straightup or ATS. It's mostly what I bet on now. Years ago I use to do well betting on the scheduling things like three days off and playing a team that won at home the night before. That one still does ok but most of those kinds of plays have been washed out by the linesmaker. So I went to setups involving extremes. Another good extreme is when a team beats or losses to the spread number by a certain amount for several games in a row. With those I look for coaches comments in the post game writeups to see if he'll really say what's going on.....they do sometimes.
