EvenYourOdds recommendation: 2* Northwestern +6.5
Good rushing teams that are underdogs will always get our attention here at EYO and Northwestern certainly fits that bill. They return all 5 offensive lineman from last season and this line was very good as the Wildcats averaged 212 rushing yards per game. Noah Herron will be the starting tailback this year as Jason Wright graduated but there is no dropoff here as Herron was very good last year with 739 rushing yards on only 119 attempts. Northwestern has loads of experience returning 17 starters from last season including their complete O and D lines which is very important. DE Loren Howard is expected to miss this game and he'll be missed but we still like the Wildcats regardless. Northwestern has also travelled well out of Conf going 8-2 ATS on the road in Non/Conf play.
TCU is always overated due to the incredibly weak schedules they play each season, they ranked 97th in schedule strength last season, there always a factor in the Conf USA race but we don't see them as being 6+ point favorites against a decent and improving Big 10 squad(this line really reflects the fact that TCU beat them handily last year, but that was last year). TCU lost there defensive coordinator and 6 starters out of there great defensive front 7 from last year, that is bad news against a great running team like Northwestern.
