This is What Happened to Me at Carib...
Now i know all about how carib has been a long time sponsor in here, and how they have a good rep in this industry, so my situation really surprised me and i would like the opinions of the BW readers on what you think....here goes....
i won a contest through BW sometime on 2002 (not exactly sure) and my prize was an account at carib. now i use 6 or 7 other books to play through, and i dont use my carib account very often because the prize i won wasnt that much $$. well, anyway, i have a co-worker who has an interest in the rest of the NFL playoffs and wanted to get some action. he wanted to just play something through me in one of my books, but i didnt want to risk taking a large hit (in my account at whichever book we used), or hassle with getting his payout if he were to win. i suggested that he get his own account and that sounded like a good idea to him, except that he asked if i could do the research as to what book to post up with since he knows almost nothing about the industry.
after checking on the particular line he was interested in at several books, i found carib to have the best number so i called carib's customer service dept to inquire about what would be needed to get a friend set up there. i spoke at length with a very friendly and courteous person. i was asked for MY name and account number as well (which i could only assume was for the referral purposes). i asked multiple times before concluding the conversation about what bonuses the NEW account would get, AND what i would be getting as a referral. i proceeded to assist my friend in getting posted up and he was credited with what they promised him.
i went into my account the next day to find a memo from carib telling me that since i had not placed a wager since november 2002, that i was not an "active" member and therefore i was not entitled to any referral bonus. my carib account does have available funds, and even after thoroughly reading all the rules, bonus info, etc, i was unable to find any definition for what "active" means.
it is not so much the amount that i should have coming for the referral, as much as the deceit, and the way i have been treated that has me highly pissed off! WHY in the hell did they want my name and account # if they werent checking me/my account out ??? and AFTER that WHY wasnt i told that i wasnt going to be entitled to a referral bonus? and on top of that, after i question why i have not gotten my referral, i get a memo again from them saying that i was a contest winner from BW and i never actually deposited any $$ with them. all true, but WTF does that have to do with anything??? i again must be missing that part under the rules section on their website that shows what is required to get a referral.
i told them that i would also be forwarding a copy of my initial email to brian here at BW in hopes it might be resolved before i felt the need to post it in a forum. it isnt alot of money that i am talking about here, it is that bait-switch scam feeling that i get when i think about it that drives me to solicit the opinions of the members of this forum. has anyone else encountered similar problems while trying to collect on a bonus or perk they were promised? am i wrong to expect a referral because i brought a new player on board and i am "just" a contest winner? or am i wrong to expect a referral bonus when i have not made a wager in 6 or 7 weeks?? how do they know if i was in a coma in uganda or something? they either need to be clearer in their rules, or tell customer service to be HONEST when talking to customers!!!!
i am anxious to hear what the crowd at BW would do if they were me.
