Just curious if anyone knows who the first online sportsbook was. Not offshore sportsbook in general, but strictly online. Online software, and whole 9 yards.

Not sure who was the first, several came on-line about the same time. I think the first off-shore book was Bowmans. -
Bowmans was nearly the LAST online sportsbook . . .

Bowmans operated from the UK originally. Started back in 1985 I believe.....
There was an offshore book or two back in the late 80's as well. What's now known as CRIS was in the Dominican.
Also a book founded by Al Corbo, founder of Don Best sports.
As far as online, I believe Intertops was the first. Right around the same time was the original betmaker.com and Island Casino......Comment

Where does WSEX fit into all this? What about the UK books? Any of them beat these guys online since they've been around so long?Comment

I believe Intertops were the first to go online. They were taking bets on the net well before their move to Antigua.Comment

Cons is right. I remember Intertops being online booking American Sports with the European format...ie decimal display of the odds.....Comment

I don't know much about the beginning but it wasn't Caribi. They didn't come around until about 2000 I think when Monty left CRIS in a huff because he had a disagreement (don't know what it was about).
CRIS was one of the first, but I don't think they were always CRIS.Comment
