  • Gambling video games

I noticed that the new generation of videogame systems---sony playstation 2, microsoft xbox and nintendo gamecube---fail to have any games for a major genre of game: gambling!

in the past, atari and intellivision and all the rest had blackjack, poker, slots, roulette, all kinds of casino games available, but these new generation systems do not

anyone know the reason for this?
my only guess is that the new videogame systems are so sophisicated and the graphics so good they want to utilize them fully for things they couldnt do before, like realistic car chases and explosions, etc, and don't want to waste time/energy/money on the same old casino games, which they really couldn't make much better anyway...(they could make topless 21 dealers or something like that though)

Maybe this new generation won't gamble, yeah right. I agree it seems odd, that for all of the computer gambling games of the past there are 0 for the latest systems. I would love a Video Poker tutor on PS2!

xbox has realistic auto racing games...they could make a horse racing game where you not only race you bet too

Where the video game platforms have really improved is in the rendering of graphics, and IMO that's sort of overkill for a gambling game. There's a number of good gambling software programs out for the PC, but none are particularly sophisticated in the graphics department. My guess is that if you're going to market a $50 videogame cartridge that you need to have a lot of action and stuff that blows up....
