FBI: No Evidence of July 4 Attack in U.S.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI, after investigating a claim of a possible July 4 attack on Las Vegas, said on Saturday that it had no evidence of any credible threat to a particular U.S. city or region on the holiday.

"Currently, we are not in receipt of any credible information which targets any specific area of the United States on or around July 4," FBI spokesman Paul Bresson said.

The FBI said Friday it was taking seriously a Lebanese-born man's claims to have overheard a cell phone conversation in Arabic about a possible July 4 attack on Las Vegas.

Michael Hamdan said he heard the speakers discussing a "hit" on the "day of freedom," which he interpreted to mean the U.S. Independence Day.

Bresson said Hamdan, a Las Vegas businessman, was given a lie detector test but the spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation declined to discuss the results.

Hamdan said he was driving down Las Vegas Boulevard last Saturday when he tried to dial his wife on his cell phone. He did not get through and was about to hang up when he heard voices speaking Arabic. He stayed on the line to listen.

According to Hamdan, the speakers said: "We are here in the city of corruption. We are here in the city of gambling and prostitution, the city of the unbelievers. ... We are going to hit them on the day of freedom."

When your number is up, chances are your number is… 11 (or a multiple of)
We all remember September 11th, but look, folks, it’s not over.
CHICAGO -- St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Darryl Kile (last name starts with K which is the 11th letter in the English language) likely died from a blockage of a coronary artery, Cook County's chief medical examiner said Sunday.
Dr. Edmund Donoghue said initial findings of an autopsy showed Kile had ''80-to-90 percent narrowing of two of the three branches of the coronary artery.'' He said the blockage was the ''likely cause of death.''
Kile, 33, was found dead in the team hotel Saturday. Police said there were no signs of forced entry and no signs of foul play.
Donoghue said a final autopsy report could take from 4-to-6 weeks because he still wants to study toxicology reports. He gave no indication Sunday that drugs or illegal substances were involved in Kile's death.
''The complete results are pending,'' Donoghue said.
The condition, called coronary heherosclerosis, is commonly known as hardening of the arteries.
Kile's father died shortly after a heart attack in his mid-40s in 1993. Don’t tell me he was 44 years old, please.
Dr. Jim Loomis, the Cardinals' assistant team physician, said Saturday that the 6-foot-5 (6 + 5 = 11) pitcher had no known health problems and was not on medication.
About two hours before Saturday's game against the Cubs was scheduled to begin, Cardinals players realized Kile was not at the ballpark and called the hotel to ask that he be checked on.
Workers at the downtown Westin Hotel forced their way into Kile's 11th-floor room because of the safety latch on the door.
Saturday's game between the Cardinals and Chicago Cubs was postponed. Later that night, the Cardinals unanimously voted at a team meeting to play Sunday night in Kile's honor. Kile had been scheduled to start Sunday.
Kile's name and No. 57 were displayed on the marquee outside Wrigley Field and on the scoreboard inside the park Sunday.
The U.S. flag was at half-mast, and all music except the national anthem was canceled. There was to be a moment of silence for Kile before the national anthem.
There were to be no public address announcements during the game except for players coming to bat and lineup changes.
The Cubs also canceled usual festivities such as honorary first pitches and the traditional singing of ''Take Me Out to the Ball Game.''
Note: the day Kile was found dead was June 22.
Note: the great Cardinal Anouncer Jack Buck also died this week – age… 77

    By the way, July (the 7th month) 4th Hmmm 7 +4 = ??? 11

    What’s the Chances?

What did man did was equivilant to yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. He's a convicted casino cheat and failed the polygraph miserably. After the press ran with his concocted lie, cancellation of bookings started to mount. Quote from LV Mayor Goodman, "if the feds don't prosecute him, I'll try to make sure he doesn't see the light of day."

Not the way I'd choose to get my 15 minutes of fame in this day and age. That pretty much puts you on the radar screen for the rest of your life. He'll probably have his house, cell phone, car, business, etc. etc. bugged and monitored until he dies.
