INTERTOPS.COM TO ACCEPT 20 MILLIONTH ONLINE WAGER

First Company To Accept An Internet Bet Reaches Another Milestone

St. John’s, Antigua (January 17, 2002)—Confirming its position as a leader of the online gaming industry, Intertops.com today announced the company expects to receive its 20 millionth online wager this week. Launched in January 1996, Intertops.com was the first company to accept a bet over the Internet and now has over 500,000 registered customers in over 180 countries worldwide.

By reaching the 20 million bet mark in the company’s first six years of existence, Intertops.com has averaged nearly one bet every 10 seconds since its inception and received five million wagers in the last year alone. The Web site receives over 18 million hits and 120,000 unique visitors per week.

“When we brought gaming onto the Internet in 1996, we never imagined that we would accept 20 million online wagers in only six years of operation,” said Simon Noble, CEO and co-founder of Intertops.com. “The extraordinary growth of the Internet has propelled the industry we helped found into a multi-billion dollar business and one of the fastest growing forms of consumer entertainment on the Web.”

Offering over 200 betting options daily, Intertops.com accepts wagers on all major international sporting events, unique pop culture “happenings”, and a wide variety of casino games. The company has received unprecedented amounts of wagers on sporting events including taking over 420,000 individual bets on Super Bowl XXXV (January 28, 2001; New York Giants vs. Baltimore Ravens) and nearly 500,000 wagers on the 2001 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament.

To celebrate reaching this milestone, Intertops.com will be giving away cash prizes to the customers that place certain numbered bets on the way to 20 million. These customers will be crowned 20 millionaires in different worldwide currencies. For example, the lucky customer that places the 20 millionth bet at Intertops.com, will receive a prize of 20 million Guinea Francs. For more details, please visit www.intertops.com.

That's hilarious 20 million guinea francs is about 10 grand...but to even find somebody willing to convert that currency, they will probably take a really hefty cut. So your 20 million guinea francs will probably be about 6 grand when all is said and done.

I'm not complaining or anything, I still think its a cool promo...but "hype" is an understatement!

Oh, and not to mention interpol and the fbi will probably be all over you ass as a 20 million guinea francs transaction will probably raise red flags in todays international monetary transaction environment...

I doubt intertops would go through the trouble of converting "real" currency. They will just credit your account the equivalent of your currency with no exchange taking place. I doubt the have 20 million of each currency hanging around.
