The following is being posted on behalf of a friend of mine, and is a sincere request, which I can validate. Thank you, Jeff
-------------------------------------------
I have lived and worked in Costa Rica for a number of
years.
I wanted to make an annual contribution to those less
fortunate and I wanted to make sure whatever it was
went directly to benefit those who needed it most.
A friend of mine put me in touch with a big hearted
American retiree named Marjorie Slovachek.
Ms.Slovachek has worked unselfishly helping the
orphanages in Costa Rica for over 10 years.
It is through her efforts that I have annualy
supported two orphanages in Heredia.
This year with the situation in the world being
currently what it is I felt compelled to meet these
unfortunate children who have been deserted or
orphaned by their parents, who have been abused
physically and otherwise and some of who are mentally
challenged or otherwise disadvantaged.
It was one of the most heart wrenching situations you
could ever imagine.
To see these remarkably well behaved children who have
been abandonded by fate disembark the orpanage bus in
Zapote and line up in size order and hold hands as
they walked into a McDonalds for the first time was a
sight to behold.
They came in and sat down with their attendants and
waited to be served.
Having never been to a McDonalds before they had to be
shown pictures of what was available to them.
I could not believe how they sat and waited to be
served and I marveled at the sheer joy that came over
their face for the paltry price of a Happy Meal.
I'll never sit in a fancy restaurant again without
thinking of those children.
They highlight of the day was the main event,Christmas
shopping at Cemaco's who graciously gave a 15%
discount as did Mcdonalds for lunch.
You would think these poor kids who have nothing would
have been ripping things off the shelf.
You wouldn't be more wrong.
They thought they were just getting a tour of the
store,a day out.
They had to be told that they were there to get their
Christmas gifts.
Twenty-three children ages 1 to 15.
If you could have been there to see the wide eyed
wonder and amazement on the faces of these kids you
could not help but open your hearts and your pockets
to help them.
I am appealing to you on behalf of not only these but
all the disadvanted children in Costa Rica.
This holiday season make a differnce in a world that
has been changed forever by the events of September
11th.
Open your hearts and your pockets and make a donation
to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
No donation is too small to those who truly have
nothing.
If you would like to donate yourelf or through your
account in the book of your choice ask them to
contact:
