  • ARE YOU A HIGH OR LOW MAINTENANCE CUSTOMER

Let me preface my remarks by stating that I have never worked for a sportsbook nor had any affiliation with one, except as a player.
I was talking to a friend who bets football only and has been doing it offshore for 5 yrs. In the course of the conversation, the topic of credit cards came up and he made some reference about "credit card problems" he was having on deposits etc. As we talked, it became clear that this was a guy, that in previous years, would deposit X amount with his card on a Friday and would, more often than not, do a credit back to his card the following Monday or Tuesday or if he does well, then it's a credit back and a separate withdrawal as well. He only plays at one book (needless to say, I don't give unsolicited advice) and so he repeats this routine quite a few times over the course of a season. Now, I know he hasn't had many winning seasons but boy, is this a HIGH Maintenance account or what??
Now I know that most of the readers here are much wiser than my friend, but I'm curious if others employ his methods of "bankrolling" their wagering account. After listening to him, I feel like I should be getting extra bonuses or perks for being a low maintenance customer.

Yeah.....but I would think that although he is a high maintenance player, it's worth it for the book. They no doubt end up with most of his dough, while in your case, while being low maintenance, they don't make as much on you, making the "extra bonus" not worth it.

It's an interesting scenario though with your friend. I sense that there are more than a few like him.

Sounds like they are used to playing with local guys where they would straighten up each week. These guys need to feel the thrill of collecting even if it's only once in a while. They don't have the ability to take into consideration the long haul..........

Jeff, I think your right about that. I know its been wierd for me to not settle up at the end of every week. But isn't the guy Chest is refering to costing himself lots of money and the book lots of money too by taking money in and out so much?

Yeah, he's costing the book and himself money, but it's money wel lspent by the book.....

I think as far as it costing him money, the mentality is such that he would prefer to spend a few extra bucks getting his money for that thrill of getting a payout.

You'll always here a guy like that bragging on Tuesday morning about the big payout he just got after a great week......maybe once or twice a year. But you never hear from him all those other weeks when he doesn't collect.

I'd venture to guess he doesn't even keep track of his wins and losses over the course of a year....

You guys DO know him pretty well! I always tell him that I don't bet football much, which is true, and I've thought about giving him unsolicited advice but you know he's having "fun" and I try not to party poop all over that and make it real serious........which is my personal weakness. I think that if it came down to shopping lines etc., he'd probably rather go back to his local man.
