  • The anti-internet gambling bill is not dead, new strategy

The bill, H.R. 3004, the Financial Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001, is not dead yet.

Here's the new strategy. I just did it and unlike sending my email somebody seemed to listen. Call the House at (202) 224-3121. Ask for you representative, if you don't know who it is give them your zip code and they will connect you. Tell them you are a constituent and you object to anti-internet gambling language being added to an anti-terrorism bill.

When you call ask for the legislative aid on HR 3004 or sometimes the person answering the phone will take th info down and pass it on.

Tell them you object to politicians using last month's tragedy to advance their right wing social agenda. The woman I spoke to in Rep. Pelosi's office was totally with me and was passing it on to the aid in charge of that bill.

Let them know that you are obvously pro gambling but pro or con this language has no place in an anti-terrorism bill.

Let's go folks. It only takes 5 minutes and you don't even have to type. Post after you call, let others know how easy it is.

After that, please call 3 friends and ask them to do the same.

Just got word they MAY try to jam this through tonight under the "suspension" rules. This means only 40 minutes debate on the whole thing, no amendments, and it requires a 2/3 vote.

This is the entire "Financial Anti-Terrorism Bill" they will be voting on if this happens, not just the gambling part.

      Start dialing people!!!

It is being reported elsewhere that the gambling portion of the bill has been stripped out.

It sounds like good news. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Nothing is ever dead as long as these people are in session in D.C. The only time I know things won't happen is when they are on recess.

I am continuing to line up family and friends to make calls. And some of them are doing the same for me. We need to be ready for the next time because this will come up again. I think the calls have worked better than the letters because you definitely know someone listens to you unlike the emails which may never be read.

        Thanks to all who helped!!!
