  • NEW 24 HOUR CHANNEL ABOUT GAMBLING TO DEBUT by Raj Vishnu.

If you're like me, you get at least 100 different television channels.
Just about every possible interest is covered on these channels, from all-news, all-sports or all-weather to 24 hour-a-day programming about animals, food or music.

In addition, there are channels devoted solely to history, entertainment, humor or public affairs.

No wonder the word "broadcasting" is quickly being replaced by the term "narrowcasting."

But in this vast landscape of TV programming, there's one glaring omission.

Can you figure out what it is?

    It's obvious, really.

A 24-hour channel about gambling, Las Vegas and associated topics!

It's a wonder why there isn't such a channel right now, considering the tremendous interest in gambling around the nation, as evidenced by the tremendous expansion of casino gambling beyond Nevada and Atlantic City.

Have you ever watched the Travel Channel, a 24-hour-a-day station about, well, travel?

It seems as if half the programs on that channel are about Las Vegas.

The people who run TV channels know about ratings, so you can be sure the reason you see so many show about Vegas on the Travel Channel is because people like watching them.

The Discovery Channel, the E! Channel and A&E, as well as other networks, also frequently show programs about Vegas or gambling.

So you can be sure there's a market out there for a 24-hour-a-day channel about betting.

And now that market is being tapped.

You've heard of the Wonderful World of Disney?

How about the Wonderful World of Wagering?

Tony Oleshansky, a TV dude out of Los Angeles, is the brains behind Vegas Television, to be known as VTV.

He's soliciting investors now to fund the project, and expects VTV to hit the airwaves before too long.

Some of the programming is predictable.

Shows about Las Vegas will be plentiful, of course, but gaming hot spots like Atlantic City, Biloxi, Reno and Monte Carlo will likely also be programming staples.

Expect lots of how-to shows, too, such as learning the finer points of craps, roulette, poker, blackjack, baccarat et al.

    Gambling-themed movies may air, too.

And don't be surprised if programs about sports betting are shown, and not just the usual football handicapping shows.

With 24 hours a day to fill, seven days a week, you'll see narrowcasting at its finest, with specific shows likely about basketball betting, baseball betting, hockey betting and horse racing betting, and maybe even golf betting and tennis betting and auto racing betting too.

Teletout Wayne Root even says he's been contacted about having a show on VTV!

And what about a show about offshore/Internet betting?

There certainly would be a lot of interest.

    Maybe even "The Bettorsworld Show"?

Of the 100 or so channels I receive, I ignore about 90 of them.

But a channel about all gambling all the time would be one channel I'd tune in to frequently.

I don't know about you, but I want my VTV, and I don't want to wait.

It definitely seems that VTV's time has come. You're right about so much of the programming on the Travel Channel being devoted to Las Vegas and gambling vacations.

I hope that a venture such as VTV will devote time, as you have speculated, to educating us in the finer points of sportsbetting.
