  • 20 cent lines

Does anybody actually play with these books that have 20 cent baseball lines? How do they survive? They must lose a ton of business to the 10 cent guys.

In general, you're right, but once in a while you can find a better line on the team you want at a .15 or .20 cent book than at a dime line place

This was especially true at CRIS at one time. A minute or two before post they would offer great prices on the dog. You could count on this.........not anymore however, although as Guesser says, there's still some value out there and not to mention the fact that for totals players, it doesn't matter.....they all deal totals the same...

I'm a small player and really wouldn't be able to take advantage of that Jeff. I only use 3 books. I should clarify. I would think that for someone like me, the 20 cent sportsbooks are worthless.

yanksfan, you'd be correct. Unless of course you love your book so much because of the service they give you during football season, that you feel so inclined as to donate to their summer vacation fund by playing into their 20 cent line.

Late last year Casablanca had a 20% cash bonus for new accts. It only ran for a short period and I jumped at it (and stupidly) somehow had the thought that it was a 3X deposit rollover in my mind. I didn't even bother asking. Well it turned out that it was a 5X, and it was totally my fault. So I was a bit stuck when basketball ended etc. When baseball started, I was using 6 other 8-10c books and I had a helluva time trying to just scalp my way out of my position at Casablanca, which uses a 20c line, especially since I rarely play totals. But unlike Yanksfan, I would be very confident in saying that a lot of players, especially the ones that consider themselves "casual players" don't really bother with the comparison if they're comfortable with their book. You see examples of this all the time in the casino business. I used to go to Reno a lot. At the Cal Neva for example, they used to (maybe still do) have more liberal blackjack rules upstairs as opposed to downstairs........in the same casino. Also there are many casinos that feature single zero and double zero roulette in the same casino.......and people still play at the double zeros. The examples can be endless. At the Cal Neva again, you can bet up to 10X your pass line craps bet in free odds. At most places it's 2X. Yet the craps tables aren't more crowded at the Cal Neva than anywhere else in town. So............

I normally look for a Live Dog when betting baseball as I hate to lay money. Most 20 cent books have the favorite jacked up by 10 cents so I get the same price on the dog as I would get at a 10 cent shop.

I'd tend to agree with chestrockwells....in most cases, particularly with the recrational players, if they used the book for football and or basketball, they'll probably stick with them if they plan on betting bases. Simply because they are comfortable with them and they trust them.

Bottom line is, many books just assume close up shop for baseball. But they can't. So the 20 cent line is the next best thing......
