  • Changed baseball odds

I was reading up on baseball rules, and I see that if a starting pitcher is changed the odds MAY change for your previous action wager.

Do most books change the odds of a baseball game for an already placed bet with no listed pitchers if the pitcher and odds change?

If this is so, do they do it all the time or only when it is beneficial for the book?

    Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience with this issue, as I want to be prepared if this ever happens.

    Thanks in advance!

I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than I would respond, but I'll give you my take.

If a player makes an action wager in baseball and the originally listed (at the time of the wager) pitchers don't start, then the odds should always be adjusted for the new pitchers.

runlines are like totals, listed pitchers must go. if there is a pitching change and the specified pitchers in your runline wager don't go, then it is graded no action. i know of no sportsbooks that have "action" runlines, but there might be one or two out there. all of these rules should be found under a book's rules and are available under "Rules/Payouts" in the Misc. file on both Don Best line services. they are standard "las vegas rules" in baseball.

Do yourself a favor and ALWAYS list both pitchers, so you don't get some readjusted odds on some other pitcher you weren't counting on starting.

In my opinion the odds should not change. Even if you place an action bet and one of the pitchers is switched. However I would check the rules and incquire via e-mail to the book in question.

In response to my own question - YES almost all books will change the odds if the pitcher and odds change on a previously made action wager.

Thanks for all your answers and suggestions as I emailed a few books.

Pitching is such a major part of baseball. Like Bman66 said, ALWAYS list pitchers. Because just like the change can work in your favor, it can also work against you. Does anyone bet action? If so,why???

I always get adjusted odds if I play
a game with action and there is a pitching
change. Yesterday the White Sox went
from -108 to +120 when Biddle started.

i always play action because when i first did my research i could not reliably get hold of whether or not my pitchers started. my research numbers still worked so i have never bothered to list pitchers.
i could improve things i guess if i listed pitchers, but i think it's a lot of work for me to find how much it hurts or saves.

Thomas what would you think if you laid -280 on the NYY because Clemens was pitching and on the way to the ball park he got in a car accident. Torre then lets the "new kid" pitch he just called up from double "A". Do you think its fair for you to lay -280 with a first time starter? Of course not and thats why if there is a pitching change, action bettors get adjusted odds. It's always has been and always will be that way, that's baseball betting 101.
