  • BAN THE BAD LINE RULE!!!!

    Greetings all,
I'm on this forum for one reason....To ask all bookies that do not have the bad line rule (or who are willing to ban it) to come forward. The bad line rule simply states that a bookie has the right to "no action" any wager in which "an obvious" erroroneous line has been posted. This RULE HAS NO PLACE IN SPORTS BETTING. My personal experience resulted in me attempting to go for a middle using 2 bookies. It resulted in one bookie voiding my bet and having me sided on one team with the other book. I wound up losing $5500. This bad line rule gives a bookie unlimited outs when they get heavy action on one side. It gives the bookie too much control over voiding wagers. IT CONTRADICTS THE OLDEST RULE IN SPORTS BETTING THAT ALL BETS ARE FINAL!!!!! Instead, they could just email you saying they put up a bad line and void all your bets. I AM ASKING ALL SPORTS BETTORS TO UNITE WITH ME AND DEMAND THIS RULE BE REMOVED. Who wants to place a bet on a game and GET A CONFIRMATION that the bet is final (on the internet or over the phone) and wake up the next morning only to find the bet was VOIDED. We sports bettors spend time in handicapping a game. I myself am also a middle bettor and in the rare case I find a good middle, I am never sure the bet will be final. THATS BULL****! BOOKMAKERS SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY WHEN THEY PUT UP A BAD LINE!!!! Plain and simple. Just as we handicappers take responsibility when we come up with our stats to place a bet. A perfect hypothetical example is me loving the sixers -7. I place 5 dimes on them. Couple of minutes later I realize that I did not factor Allen Iverson's inability to play due to injury. My numbers now tell me that the sixers should have been -2 instead. It was an "OBVIUOS" error on my part. AM I ALLOWED TO ASK THE BOOKIE TO WITHDRAW MY BET!!!! NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!!!!! I made the error, I TAKE THE HEAT. Plain and simple. Just as when bookies make an error, regardless of how obvious it is, the bet should still be honered. In CLOSING I AM reiterating my plea for all bookies to come forward (on this thread) who will always honor a bet and who have no exceptions to the rule that all bets are indeed final. It is rare when a bookie makes an error and alot of you bettors may not relate to me. BUT When it happens to you you'll be as irate as myself.

I agree whole-heartedly. If IMB or Microsoft made the kind of mistakes these MMs make, they'd be out of business long ago.

Actually, I think alot of players can relate to you.

Maybe the answer lies somewhere in the middle though.

I mean, what if one of your books came in one morning, opened shop before his help arrived, and posted a number that was waaaaay off. He then goes to take a leak or something, all the while, half his players are unloading on this error (not you).

This happens a few times, next thing you know, you ask for a payout and your book can't deliver.........maybe that's extreme, but you get the point.

I've always felt though, that there should at least be some clarification as to just what constitutes a bad line. How many points? How many cents? That needs to be clarified.

Jeff thats exactly my point though. This aint a one man operation. If a book put up a bad line went to take a piss and had everyone unloading on the line, (while someone should've corrected the line) he should still honor the bets. If the book can't honor the bets he hould not be in business. If he thinks he can get killed by putting up a bad line (which of course he can) he should hire competent workers to ensure the line is not put up bad or corrected immediately. If one or two workers had to be there rotating around the clock either have them there or DON'T open shop until you have a guy monitoring the lines for you. The point is the player should not take the blame. 11/10 is all we players are required to pay. There should be no such thing as a BAD LINE. If I could bet it and I get a confirmation that its final...its FINAL i.e. its a good line.

Middleman, I'm curious as to what the numbers were in your case. How "bad" was the line?

Jeff It was a 5 point middle. But that is irrelvant. While waiting for bookies to respond I will take the liberty in calling a few bookies and asking them what their policies are. I will post my findings on this thread. I urge the sports betting community to help me in finding these good bookies that will honor ALL bets as being final. I also want to post the books that do have the bad line rule and discourage all from using them. Like I said before placing a bet, getting a confirmation and having it void is the worse sin in sports gambling...

middleman, i agree with you 100%. a bet made is a bet played! when they ask on the phones for you to listen back to the wager then confirm that is when they should catch their mistakes. if they fail to do so they need to tighten up their operation! not the player's job to make the lines. and as for the reasoning that if a book gets hammered on one bad line & may not be able to pay, i need to know which books these are because if one side of one game will bust them i want out now!

What kind of person are you? The books don't write or use this rule to hurt you. This is simply to protect themselves from the 100% chance that a mistake is made.
Why would you deserve the chance to make a score off of somebody's mistake.
If you make the mistake of not locking your car door, does that mean it is OK for us to steal it.
And as far as the oldest rule in sports betting goes....WAIT
                sports BETTING?
                That to me implies gambling.
Why don't you worry about gambling, and getting paid. Is it so hard for you to pick a winner that this is what you resort to.
That's great unite the sports bettors. First of all you have to be a bettor to be included. Let's make THAT the first rule of this organization.

I have the right to make a bet off of somebody's mistake du to the fact that all bets are final. The bad line rule contradicts the fact that all bets are final. If I make a mistake in handicapping can I ask the book to void my bet. OF COURSE NOT!!! If bookies have the opportunity to void any bet at managements discretion what is the use of having internet confirmations or read backs. IT IS CONTRADICTORY and I will not give my business to someone that can go back on a bet. I will post my findings on a few books policies soon.

Any decent book will cancel a bet for you if they honestly believe you made the bet in error.
As for you posting your findings. Who cares?

                      MIDDLE MAN,

YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF WITHOUT MOST OF YOUR BOOKS.

IF YOU HAD A 5 POINT MIDDLE GOING,YOU HAD A MISPOSTED LINE THAT WAS 5 POINTS OFF.

I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE LIST OF BOOKS WHO WILL HONOR THIS MIS-POSTED LINE.

                      FOR 5 DIMES NO LESS!

ANYBODY BETTING THAT KIND OF MONEY KNOWS THE LINE IS BAD.

IF YOU BET A LINE THAT'S BAD THAT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF STEALING IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE LIST OF BOOKS WHO ARE GOING TO HONOR MIS-POSTED LINES FOR 5 DIMES.

                      TONIGHT'S BETTORSWORLD PROP:

NUMBER OF BOOKS WHO WILL HONOR MIS-POSTED LINES FOR 5 DIMES:

                      OVER 1.5 BOOKS -1.00
                      UNDER 1.5 BOOKS -1.20

                      UNDER FOR A DIME...

                        To Themiddleman,
It is because of the unsavoury actions of gamblers like yourself that try to scam books by betting obvious bad lines and similar actions that books invariably develop a defensive attitude to punters. In my experience, if you play fair and square a book will treat you with the respect you deserve. I concur with REALITY, betting a bad line is on the same level as stealing.

Betting a bad line aint stealing... Its shopping for value. Check my post on the************. Reality as I said on the ************, sbg and gibraltor honor everything. Thats what I call solid books. They have enough money to accept their mistakes. They make VERY few mistakes but when they do they eat it. Thats how it should be.

                          As for Chillin's post
"Any decent book will cancel a bet for you if they honestly believe you made the bet in error"

I'll lay 100 to 1 on ANY book doing that. If you know of any these kind of books chillin, let me know. Most of you will probably think I'll join them immediately since I can exploit their weakness. On the contrary though, a book that allows users to go back on a bet which the user claims was by error is simply idiotic bookie that will go out of business soon. What I'm asking is fair... No renigs. Books dont go back on bookin my bet and I won't go back on puttin in my bet. ITS ONLY FAIR. The second part is already solved. Books will never (no matter what you say chillin) allow me to take my bet back (exception maybe if the line moved againt them ;o) ) All we need is the 1st part they shouldn't go back on bookin my bet
                          end of story

I have to agree whole heartedly with you middle man. It is ridiculous. I have seen some 5 or 6 point middles stand so how do we know if it is bad or not? I have seen many money lines that have the opposite team favored, so how do we know if they are reversed or not?
This reminds me of an experience I had with Yabet, who posts many bad lines almost every day. I seen that they had over unders listed on three way hockey many times, for several weeks. So being a novice, and not knowing what it was, I stupidly bet 5$ on one, to see how it was scored. I figured it was worth 5 bucks to try to understand this bet I guess, although I obviously did not think it through Anyway I received a very nasty email from there bm, Rick Calling me a cheater, and I should have known it was a bad line. Ok fine, I should have, but why was this offered almost everyday?? I honestly did not know what I was even betting on, I thought it might have been the overtime period. The point is, Why am I the cheater, cause they offered up this bet?? It severed a perfectly good relationship I had with this book. Cause obviously I was not going to play there after there allegations. You know how much effort it takes to fix this? a proof reader! Its that easy, and i know it will be fixed eventually. Its the way it is cause bettors put up with it. Just as the bettors who always bet these give us a bad name, the books who are often voiding bets and offering bad lines should get a bad name. If you don't like your line, DON'T OFFER IT!! Also I never have heard of books taking mistaken bets back!! Chillin, which books are these???
