  • Is there something else going on?

This is strictly a theoretical question, it's not a gripe or an accusation.

Could a large book like Carib or WSEX accumulated a client base that became too large.
Baseball is coming up. With the volume of games being played daily, the amount of wagers must get enormous.
Could a manager of a book possibly make a decision that a client base needed to be reduced to reduce risk and to more effectivley service an expected record volume when MLB comes into full swing.

You can't reject new clients. You can't dump existing clients. The fallout from such actions would be devastating.
You engineer a couple of system down times.
You anger the more volitile client base and they jump ship in a huff.
You keep the patient players who are more likley to stay with the book through ups and downs. The clients you want.

I stress this is just my mind wandering. Even if it is true I have no beef with the strategy.
It makes perfect sense to me.

I just hope they get back on line soon.

I don't believe so. Volume equals profits in this biz so I just don't see this as a possibility.

On the otherhand, a book could grow faster than it's servers can handle, which has happened in the past, and wouldn't be out of the question with March Madness upon us.

But that wouldn't be the case with the two you mentioned, as they have spent fortunes making sure that can't happen........

How about their handle, it must be enormous. I would imagine some of it possibly wouldn't be liquid (Markets or ?).
If this is true, the non-liquid portion could be subject to reduced value?
Could a manager decide to take a conservative approach and reduce clients, bringing the handle and client base into proper ratio.
As you said these are big well established books who have spent fortunes on their systems.

Obviously I have too much time on my hands this morning.
Maybe I should go clean the gutters or something.
On the other hand I haven't solved the grassy knoll mystery yet

Hey, nothing wrong with speculation. It makes for good food for thought. I guess you never know. I just doubt it in this case. I can't see it as worthwhile to the book.

Much too risky as well. You could end up pissing off ALL of our customers.......

There is an easier way to reduce handle during baseball season.
          Go to 20c lines.
It's a sure way to reduce your handle.

This could even be a problem with an internet service provider. It would be good if these sportsbooks would post some explanation to the problems.
