      CHUCK Z,

THEN WHAT YOUR SAYING IS THE B.M.IS FREE TO TELL THE PLAYER THE LINE WE QUOTED YOU MINUS 2.5 IS NO GOOD IT IS NOW -3.5 BECAUSE THE PLAYER DIDN'T CONFIRM WITH HIS PIN # AND PASSWORD?

Lot's of shops say "listen carefully, it's the read back that counts". With that in mind, I'd have to say the bet isn't official until the readback is given and the player confirms it with his account number and password.

            JEFF,

ARE YOU SAYING UNTIL THE PLAYER READS BACK HIS PIN# AND PASSWORD THE BOOK IS FREE TO TELL THE PLAYER THE LINE WE QUOTED YOU -2.5 IS NO LONGER GOOD BECAUSE YOU DIDNT CONFIRM.

            IT IS NOW -3.5.

WHAT HAPPENED TO HONORING THE LINE QUOTED?

              "R"man,
You always defer to the best interest of the player. In your example he would have the option of the favorite -1.5 or the dog +2.5. This is based on the fact he was already quoted the 2.5 and then the change was made. Integrity is all too important, much wiser to give the customer his choice in this situation. misty

Personally, I hate this system where there is someone in a chair yelling. I prefer the systems at WWTS, Sports-Market, Jazz, and others where the clerk is reading a line off a screen in a calm, quiet background.

For the 15 seconds between the time the lines is quoted and when the bet is confirmed (OK, it's unfortunately longer than this at some shops), the bookmaker shouldn't be silly enough to let the player hear him change the line in his favor. If he does, he should only expect the player to pass instead of confirm.

I agree with Misty, where the player has the option of the two lines. A good customer service gesture. Don't screw with the customers, give them the best available line.

Reality, maybe this is one instance where the player actually has something in his favor. You know, the bookmaker has all sorts of tricks and tactics to use against the player. For example:

Player: Whaddya got on game #701 Milw?

                    Book: Game 107 sir?

                    Player: no, 701 the bucks

Book : Let's seeeeeeeeee. Now, that's college basketball correct?

                    Player: No, NBA

Book: Let's see, game 701, hold on sir (covers the mouthpiece, another delay)

Book: The bucks are 1.5 and 192

You get the picture, I'm sure. When the player called, the game is 2.5 and by the time he got the quote, it was 1.5, and of course, he wanted the dog.

So you see, in a way, the book DOES get to change the number.

Let's stop crying for the book. Remember too, the player has to lay 11/10

In your scenerio, the bet is cancelled, no question about it.

Oh, one more thing. Train the clerks to get on and off the call as quickly as possible and tell the guy in the chair to keep his voice down to a dull roar. If those two steps were followed in your example, the book in question might have been able to book the bet at 2.5.

Dragon, you have me laughing. You have to be a player to hear all the nonsense that goes on with scared bookmakers.

IF THE PLAYER ATTEMPTED TO CANCEL AFTER THE READBACK AND RIGHT RIGHT BEFORE THE CLERK SAID,"YOUR PIN # AND PASSWORD WILL CONFIRM YOUR BET",WHY CAN'T THE BOOK SAY THE LINE HAS CHANGED AND NOT HONOR THE MORE FAVORABLE LINE FOR THE BOOK?

ISN'T THIS THE EXACT SAME THING FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE COUNTER?

IS CANCELLING A WAGER AFTER A LINE CHANGE AN OPTION FOR THE PLAYER ONLY?

For the 15 seconds between the quote and the confirm the player has some small edge, IF the book is dumb enough to let the player hear the line changes.

IN A ROOM WITH 60 OPERATORS SHOULD THE BM NOT YELL OUT THE CHANGE AND RISK GETTING DOUBLE OR TRIPLE BANGED AT THE ORIGINAL NUMBER?
