It seems that the Horse Racing industry is lobbying the US Government because they have been the biggest losers in the gaming industry since offshore wagering started to grow leaps and bounds.

Goodlatte likes chances of Internet betting ban bill

Although Congress failed to pass a bill last year to ban gambling on the Internet, one of the top supporters of the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act said circumstances may be better this year for the legislation.

Representative Bob Goodlatte, a Republican from Virginia, said a new attorney general and a Republican in the White House may help the chances of the bill. Goodlatte, who is working with various supporters, including Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, also said he intends to reintroduce a bill in "the next several weeks."

Although President George W. Bush has yet to take a stand on the issue, recently confirmed Attorney General John Ashcroft has a history of voting against Internet gambling, including in 1999 when he was a Republican senator from Missouri.

"In the last Congress, the (Clinton) administration was resisting the bill," Goodlatte told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "This year, I think we’ll get everybody on board heading in the same direction."

Goodlatte also indicated that he does not believe Internet gambling, which generated estimated revenue of $1.5-billion in 2000 and has projected revenue of $6-billion by 2003, has gained too many allies to prevent Congress from acting on a prohibition.

"There is growing concern by state governments in particular because these illegal, unregulated, untaxed offshore gaming operations are sucking increasingly large numbers of money out of the country," Goodlatte said. "They’re ripping off consumers."

Just a note here! Obviously, legitimate businesses in other countries are seen as a threat to US! Will the US bomb Antigua or Costa Rica????

The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, which included language that exempted horse racing, passed out of the Senate last year but died when it was not included in an omnibus spending package.

These people would have more credibility if they would just come out and say "We're against any gambling that we don't get a piece of".

The truth is they support gambling...

What is the lottery all about??? A miniscule chance to win something BIG!

The Governments (states) only see the wonderful 45%+ ROI!!!!

      Figure it out!
