Indonesians treat westerners well for a variety of reasons. One reason is becasue there aren't very many westerners in their country compared to a place like Thailand. Also because Jakarta is not a tourist place, most of the westerners there are businessmen who are richer and stay in country longer than tourists. In other countries overrun by western tourists I found the locals tend to look down on westerners or see them only as a source of money. In Indonesia (excluding Bali) there is a bit of novelty value left in being a westerner.

Indonesia is a very respectful and polite society. They are also very class oriented. If you are a westerner people put you in the higher class and treat you accordingly.

In relationships, money is more important in Indonesia than in North America. This is because there are fewer job opportunities for Indonesian women so they must rely more on the man for income. It is not so different in North America though. I don't remember having many dates when I was unemployed. Sex and money is a more accepted combination in Asia. Rich Indonesian men usually have mistresses and prostitution while frowned upon is more accepted.

As a percentage there are probably as many good looking women in North America as in Indonesia except in Indonesia the good looking ones are interested in you. They are interested in you because you are a novelty and because you are comparitively well off financially. however, even short-term (time?)
issues like chemistry, personality and compatability quickly take over.

Even with lots of great looking women to choose from I didn't find many that would interest me long term. I like educated, smart women and becuase of culture and opportunity there were fewer of them in Indonesia.

Indonesia was a great place to live and I will go back. When I first got to Indonesia I thought that being treated better just because I was a white male was a terrible thing. Also having women interested in me just because I was a rich westerner seemed artificial because they didn't really know me. After a while you just get used to it and enjoy the good life. It is definately good for your ego. If you stay too long though it can spoil and corrupt you.

I agree with Reno that Asia is great to satisfy your lust. It is more difficult for love/marriage. It depends what you are looking for.

One of my closest friends is from Jakarta. He had some disagreement with one of Suharto's people and fled the country. Everytime we talked about women (different nationalities) he always bragged about Indonesian women. Very loyal, good housewife,etc., etc and he ended-up marrying an American white woman (not N. American though . Since then, topic was closed.

This is certainly an interesting and rather different thread...just a few comments...

1. Everyone (Reno, Ronbets, Reality, Johnny Demarco, etc...) has come up with some excellent points on the debate, with the exception of course being Windmill's unjustified attack on Reno. Windmill, I'm sorry to hear what happened to your daughter, but what in the world does that have to do with Reno screwing around with an 18 year old foreigner??? It's amazing how we have evolved in this country to the point that we are where a person having sex with an 18 year old girl is implied to be a pedophile!!! Twenty years ago, if you were a 50 year old man dating an 18 year old about the worse you could expect was a disapproving stare and some comments about what a "pig" you were, and even that was rare. NOW, you get treated as some kind of pseudo-pedophile and people want to throw in you jail. The word pedophile should be reserved for those very, very sick bastards who go out and prey on CHILDREN, not girls in their late teens. And even statuotory rape, while wrong, should be distinguished from pedophilia. You cannot tell me that a person who has sex with a 15 year old is to be viewed in the same fashion as a sick bastard who has sex with a 10 year old???

2. As for Reno's contention about american women...well...I think he has a pretty good point in light of the average woman that I've dealt with. However, it is still very possible to find a "normal" girl in the U.S. if you're willing to be patient and put in a little effort yourself. But on average, U.S. women are MUCH more likely to bust your stones on a consistent basis unless you find the right one...which...

3. Brings me to my next point. Johnny Demarco made some comments about there being a difference between most U.S. women and girls in the south. This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO accurate! The only reason I finally decided to settle down and get married was because I found myself the perfect woman on a visit to Tallahassee. She's smart, good-looking and like most southern women, she doesn't spend all of her time figuring out ways to change you and/or put your gonads in a jar like all the girls I deal with here in New York. Demarco is totally right on this, southern women like REAL men, the scotch drinking, meat eating, sports gambling, politically conservative, quick to "throw hands" old fashioned guys who have so much trouble fitting into today's politcally correct society.

3. But at the risk of insulting my red-haired, fair skinned wife, Reno is right that Latin Women are the best looking on average, with Asian women a very close second.

4. Ronbets, you know I love ya, but it's true that american women, on average, are a lot harder to deal with than Latin, Asian or even European women. In other parts of the world, all you have to do is be decent looking, reasonable smart, have a few bucks and not act like a total ass and you can get virtually any women regardless of her looks. In the U.S. (except for the South) you have to have some kind of "gimmick" which makes you appealing, otherwise you better have a great face and perfect body, or a grotesque amount of money if you want to get the best looking women. This "gimmick" I'm talking about is especially true among younger women now, you need to be really different in some way that makes you stand out, like really long hair, different racial background, poor bathing habits, multiple piercings, etc...something that makes you the guy that would really piss off their father. Back in the 1980's, the good looking, clean cut preppy look carried you a long way, but since about 1990 you've had to have some kind of "gimmick" to get the a-list babes.

To me it sounds like everyone here who is fired up about the Latins and the Asians are looking for slaves instead of a partner. I was married to a Colombian "looker" once myself. The thing that killed us was the communication gap. She is a great lady but the cultures are so far apart. Southern girls for the most part, want to stay home and make things a real home. If you get a hold of a real southern girl (with southern roots) chances are real good that you'll keep her.

I do want to add that among Caucasian women, the Russians stand-out. Anyone looking to marry a stunning Anna Kournikova-type should head to Moscow or St. Petersburg. Not only are there tens-of-thousands young, drop-dead gorgeous, and statuesque women in these cities, but many speak fluent English, have advanced degrees, and would love to marry an American.

Russians? All the Russians here in Georgia are pizza delivery people. Men & women. Those women are pretty though. Here is a stat for you. 7 out of every 10 Russian women that come to this country are treated for sexual disease upon arrival. That came from CDC right here in Atlanta.

while i wouldn't align myself w/windmill, i am distressed that this discussion continues. i can understand jr44's point and different people have different preferences, which is fine. i believe you should seek out what you are attracted to.

Just because I don't like a pushy woman doesn't mean I want a girl who kisses my ass either. Believe it or not, there's room in between those two extremes. Some of the people on this board know me and my wife and would be glad to tell you that she does NOT kiss my ass and she's not some shrinking violet or idiot with a double digit I.Q. either. She's an attorney with a bigger brain than either of us. But she's a pleasant person who actually WANTS TO BE HAPPY unlike a large percentage of the women I encounter here in New York, and she takes no pleasure in fighting, bitching about my friends, gambling, drinking, etc...she actually accepts me like I am. The point I was trying to make is that far too many american women are interested in changing or molding their men to their idea of what a man should be, and I'm not talking about little things like putting down the toilet seat. And whether you care to believe it or not, there IS a difference in culture that makes southern women more open to the idea of a "man's man" as opposed to the Alan Alda/ Mr. Sensitive type or long haired "rebel without a clue type"

In summary, I think you could dig up a lot of dirt on guys like me, Reno or Demarco, but being gay isn't one of them, and Ronbets, I can't believe you were so quick to echo these sentiments.
