HOW IMPORTANT IS THE B.M.?

A FRIEND OF MINE,WITH ONE OF THE BIGGEST WISEGUY CLEARING HOUSES IN THE BUSINESS SINCERELY BELIEVES THE BOOKMAKER REALLY DOSEN'T MAKE THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE ESPECIALLY IN A PLACE WHERE THEY WANT TO WRITE IT ALL.

I disagree. Whereas a by-the-book BM will formulaically move his numbers according to action, a truly sharp BM will type his players and move the line more dramatically when a proven winner plays into his shop. In other words, a sharp BM is not tethered by conventional bookmaking methodology. He is an artist rather than a mere technician. And because of his artistry, he will attract more action (on the losing side)than his by-the-book competitors. Consequently, he will make more money.

AGREED,PROVIDING HE IS NOT A MODERN IMPRESSIONIST ARTIST WHOSE CAREFREE STYLE ALLOWS HIM TO THROW CAUTION TO THE WIND AND OVERMOVE HIS NUMBERS TO GET TO THE PROMISE LAND.

Not important at all if they won't book to sharps and wiseguys. My little sister can read charts and book to high rolling squares. If a book takes wiseguy action, then the answer is exactly how reno put it. Frank.
