  • TRUE NBA FISH STORIES

The last time Roger and I talked, we were reminiscing NBA pointspread 'bloopers'. The scene MSG mid 70's KNICKS(-6,6.5) vs PORTLD. In the waning moments of garbage time--NY by 8 (10sec.left). Blazers miss shot-Earl (TP) Monroe(NY) rebounds heads up court, stops, turns around and fires a jumper at his own basket that narrowly rims out.

I'm sure you guys can share a few of your own. Let's hear 'em.

Not certain of the date but in Baton Rouge the refs brought an LSU player back on the court in street clothes to shoot foul shots to get the game off the #. This was 45 min after the buzzer. True story...Scotty

About 8 years ago an televised NBC game had the spurs playing someboday. I know that one team had the spread covered in garbage time. The sow went off the air due to the final but the refs called the players to come out for one team to shoot foul shots and the other team covered. This was not seen on TV, so many folks did not know.

Wow, didn't know ESPN had the power to alter the final scores from Bristol , similar thing happened to me last year. Had the over in Clipps/Pacers bigtime, Derek anderson hit one of two free throws to make it a push with a few seconds left. Jalen Rose hit a shot from just inside half court at the buzzer to make it a win for me apparently. The officials signaled count it, and even went over to the scorer to make sure. Though, the game was over I remember Jim Todd arguing that it shouldn't count (don't even remember who won--did the Clipps beat Indiana last year at Staples), when Fox went off they showed the final with Jalen's basket. I only noticed it didn't count when I saw my balance the next day on Carib.

So far, the Earl Monroe one was the best.

It was PHX -6.5, with a 7 point lead vs the Jazz. A half hour after the game was over, Blue Edwards came out in a suit and canned two free throws for the Jazz and the bookies. Can you say "White-Collar" Crime?
