  • How Low Can Vegas Sportsbetting Go?

Recently in this forum, esteemed BW member Ronbets opined that Vegas sportsbetting had hit rock-bottom. Well, Ronbets is right 99.9% of the time, but in this case he is wrong.

For proof that the worst is yet to come, consider the following: First, the Gaming Control Board (GBC), which "temporarily" imposed a $2200 cumulative limit for all phone wagers combined in a 24-hour period at each sportsbook offering phone betting, now seems intent on making this ruling permanent.
First, they had insisted that anyone wishing to eliminate the $2200 daily cap fill-out paperwork and present substantial proof of Nevada residency. Now, from what I hear, it is unlikely that the cap will be eliminated for anyone.

Furthermore, according to a phone clerk at the Horseshoe, The GBC's next target is going to be over-the-counter wagering. Who knows what kind of harassment measures they have planned for anyone wanting to make large bets at a sportsbook. It wouldn't surprise me if the GBC starts forcing sportsbooks to interrogate big-time players and fill-out detailed reports on them.

It is impossible to overestimate the idiocy of the neo-Nazi control-freaks who run the GBC. For example, one of the hottest nightclubs in Vegas was C2K at the Venetian. Well, some chick visiting the club overdosed on the drug ecstacy, and the reactionary GBC simply closed the club down. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water.

When Artie and his crew of runners had millions of dollars confiscated from them by the GBC and Feds earlier this year, Dana of Don Best Sports stated that Vegas now treats sportsbettors like criminals. Unfortunately, that is the truth.

It's a sad state of affairs in this alleged gambling town called Las Vegas. A town founded on gaming principles. To reduce our limits would make this place a virtual Deadwood, Colorado of sports betting. Their excuses and reasoning for this reduction are all ego and lack of understanding. To add to this Reno, they have a new innovation which should be approved after their Oct 26th meeting. They will propose a $550 limit on all college athletics, OTC and phone. This enactment would be a self imposed restriction to head off the imminent ban.

What really irks me is their notion that organized crime(2guys&2phones) are using Nevada to lay off action. They shouldn't flatter themselves so much. They also contend that it's embarrassing when other states employ Metro to carry out search warrants from incoming wiretaps.

Granted, I'm not a pillar of the community, but I'm a high paying taxpayer. I've had it with LV. Seriously thinking of moving north, maybe a border town.

      Hey Ron,
You been to Cripple Creek, Colorado or Deadwood, South Dakota? They are trying but it is laughable to call them casinos unless you are a slot player. There is a vote on Deadwood being able to increase the limit to $100. Kevin Costner would supposedly build a big one if it gets passed.

Yeah Bucky, been through there during AllStar break. You're right they are trying. To their credit, they started tin horn and are trying to progress.

If the situation around here continues to deteriorate, I'm selling out and moving north to Wendover. Borders Utah and Nv. Nights I'll sleep well with the Mormans, and daytime I'll set up with the sinners.
