  • Sonny Roberts- Behind the scenes at Jaguar Sports

CEO'S CORNER Sonny Roberts, CEO; Jaguar Sports International E-Syndicated Columnist
( Note from Bettorsworld: Jaguar Sports is a solid organization offering an unusually strong incentive package of ongoing bonuses, high parlay odds, an exclusive airline mileage award program and low deposit/wagering minimums. They can be reached at jagbet.com or 1-888-888-9984). A Five Week Report October 2, 2000

Isn't life sweet? I guess it depends on what side of the lollipop you are looking from.

Baseball 2000 is almost over and Jaguar Sports is holding 8.2% against handle (over the past five weeks of combined football/ baseball / miscellaneous props). And, one of Jaguar's very first ( and very loyal ) customers finished out the baseball regular season yesterday by hitting his third winning 8 team parlay this year, this time for an $83,164 score. And yes… he did call for a "money out" today.

On Saturday 9.30.00, we went 10 and 0 on those college games with the largest stands. It was one of those dandy Dog Day afternoons for shops like ours that had 80% or more of its' customers laying the wood. The score was evened out a bit on Sunday when everyone but the Pope and Pete Rose got down on the Rams.

And, since the best five month hold performance (September through superbowl) in our 7 year history is 5.4%, Jaguar is also bracing for the inevitable lean weeks to come in the very near future.

This year, Jaguar decided on a more aggressive marketing campaign to attract internet players, cautious newcomers, and more conservative gamblers. It has been a hugely successful campaign with more new customers signed up during these first five weeks than all of last year. And, to better service this new business, we made a change in our wagering limits, resulting in a benefit to both the house and our customers, which is not an easy accomplishment. Our long standing policy had been pretty much to take any bet on an NFL side up to the customers account balance. Part of that policy by the way was, I admit, a macho thing, you know, the " This is the NFL… come and bet it " attitude.

The largest customers, representing a small percentage of our active customer base on any given game, provided 50% of the volume. This meant that Jaguar was often in the business of gambling with a few customers, especially when they all came down on the same side, while grinding out a small but steady living from everyone else.

This also required that we move the lines to discourage ( and alternately) encourage certain customer wagering for book balancing purposes. Some customers then found themselves laying ( or taking) less desirable lines while Jaguar's hold percentage suffered due to the artificially stimulated influx of money from line shoppers and professional wagering houses buying back the short side. We decided to do something about it in anticipation of a strong response to our new customer incentive program.

Our year 2000 limits ($5,000 on sides and totals, $2,000 on everything else) and $10 internet / $25 phone minimums, are designed to protect the house and reward our preferred customers with a steady line, right up through kickoff. And, it discourages the "steam' player who usually posts up at least $50,000 wanting at least a $10,000 limit. The final straw was that Jaguars' bonus policy of 20% on the initial deposit and 10% thereafter, meant to encourage and benefit the newer or more casual player, was being abused.

When all is said and done, our thousands of customers enjoy Jaguars ongoing bonuses ( 20% new accounts, 10% thereafter), the ( really, go check it out ) highest parlay odds in the business, and our other consumer incentives ) along with a steady wagering line.

If you have $50,000 or more to deposit, want to wager $10,000 or more per game, and are unsure of finding a safe out, feel free to call us for a recommendation. There are several good choices and we know who is safe and who may not be.

Also, as I have noted before, the best reason to choose a book other than Jaguar is if you are predominantly a teaser player. There are a few sound books that do in fact beat our two team teaser prices of 110; 115; and 120 for 6; 6 ½; and 7 pointers. Again, feel free to call us for a recommendation.

If you want to be part of the wagering community that brings Jaguar back to earth ( and the predictable year to date 5% hold), give us a call. Maybe you just want to change your luck….and get a 20% signup bonus plus 14:5 on two teamers 24/7. We'd love to hear from you.

    Sonny Roberts.

P.S. We really got it stuck to us in the Oct 2 Monday night game. (The game, the over, and a million parlays on both ).

    Just wondering,

If someone hit three 8-team parlays in baseball this year, how many of these 8-team parlays did the person attempt in the course of a year?

    Thanks,
    Groz

Can someone tell me what type of experiences they have had with Jaguar sports? Are they a solid book?

ALso, I would appreciate it if you could tell me what the bonus obligation is.

The following is being passed along on behalf of Sonny and Jaguar Sports.......thanks to Sonny for taking the time to answer the questions asked!

Groz wanted to know how many 8 team baseball parlays were lost by the
Jaguar customer who hit three of these this past year. He lost
approximately 210 such parlays at an average wager of about $800 each or
$168,000. The three that he won paid 83,000; 47,000; and 78,000
respectively ( all figures rounded to 1,000 ) for a total of 208,000.

Mikawl wanted to know about Jaguar's bonus policy and rules:
        1) In order to fully earn and withdraw the 20% bonus on new accounts,
the customer must give us 4 times the initial deposit in volume over a
        thirty day period.
        2) Any winnings or account balances exceding the initial deposit and
bonuses may be withdrawn at any time.
3)All subsequent deposits earn a 10% bonus. The rules are the same as
above except that the volume must be twice the amount deposited instead
        of four times.
        4) The customer does not qualify for the 10% reup bonus if he makes a
payout request and then simply turns around and sends it back. It is
meant to "ease the pain" a bit and keep a customer loyal should they tap
        out.

These policies are explained to every new customer with little confusion
and few complaints. The bonuses are posted automatically for internet
        credit card deposits.

As pointed out by some BW correspondents, a free play is worth only
about half of a wagering bonus. While both cost you nothing should you
lose it,a bonus counts the same as your own money when calculating the
payoff whereas a free play only returns the winning portion.

Another question was asked about Jaguars' financial stability. Even at
this early stage in the season when the majority of our advertising
budget has been expensed, the cost of major off season infrastructure
expansion has been paid for, and just under $600,000 in customer bonuses
have been awarded this year, Jaguar holds an enviable cash to customer
escrow balance ratio of 3.2 to 1.

        Thank you.

        Sonny Roberts

I have an account with Jaguar and have nothing but nice things to say about them.

As you have read, they offer a great incentive program, which includes the cash 20% initial signup bonus as well as American Airline frequent flyer miles. This is no scam, it's the real deal, and a great extra in my opinion.

Their clerks are very friendly, speak great English and have never been a problem in any way (so far at least!).

This is just my opinion...take it for what it's worth. Talk to Austin or Rich - they are both very cool, stand-up guys!

          Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I always find it interesting when I read about someone hitting for a high dollar parlay. Usually I am sceptical.(As are many people, I presume).

We know in general, parlays are for suckers. By hitting that last 8-team parlay, the guy is up approximately 40,000 on the 8-teamers for the year. If it wasn't hit, he would be down almost 40G for the year. That is what I call real gambling.

Thanks again for the honest reply. I'm sure it is graded as just a win or loss on the parlay, but I was curious what the guy's record was in the roughly 210 parlays that were played.

It would be interesting to see if he had alot of 6-2 days vs. lets say, 3-5 or 2-6 days. I guess there is not much of a chance that he would be up more by playing just each game straight up and forgetting about playing the parlays. Thanks again.

            Best of Luck,
            Groz

              From Sonny....................

GROZ writes that "parlays are for suckers". While it is generally true
that the juice on parlays is considerably higher than that on straight
plays, there are some notable exceptions.

Baseball parlays pay at true odds with no additional juice to the book.
Baseball parlays are not profitable business for Jaguar and we would not
offer them except for the fact that it is competitively necessary.

Jaguars 2 team and 3 team straight play parlay odds of 14:5 and 6.5:1
carry a house edge of 5.0% and 6.25% respectively, which is modestly
              higher than 11:10 vig.

A Jaguar 6 team parlay paying 50:1 provides a house edge of 20.3%. While
that may seem high, it must be considered that the customers' downside
is limited to the amount of his wager while the house will lose 50 times
              the winning wager.

Taken in the light of a state lottery where the juice is at least 40%,
sportsbooks parlays seem like a bargain.

Thank you HCUNITED for your kind remarks re: Jaguar service. Rich is our
managing director while Austin, a true professional, is Jaguars' longest
standing customer service rep. Mark, another of our popular and long
standing customer service reps is undergoing some minor surgery next
              week
here in San Jose. Go easy on him for awhile!!.

Those of you that have read my earliest CEO's Corner column will recall
my contention that customer retention should be the number one priority
for any company. All comments, positive or negative in that regard are
              always invited.
