  • Is covering MORE important than winning?

Because some of the Public laid -5 on Michigan St. the Coach had to kick the extra point when they went ahead 26-21 to make sure they won by 6 points and make sure everybody covered. He probably figured if they couldn't win by more than 5 points, IT DIDN'T MATTER IF THEY LOST THE GAME 28-27!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Something is seriously wrong here!!!!!!

Florida also did something really FISHY, but not as FISHY as this. There is a big problem coming...............

why is kicking an extra point fishy if scoring counts in computer rankings of teams?

It's fishy because what do you possibly have to gain by kicking the extra point to go up by 6? A TD ties the game, with the extra point winning it.

If they went for two, to go up 7, they would have forced ND to not only score, but make the extra point in order to send it into overtime.

Another reason that kicking it didn't make sense, is that it could have been blocked and run back for two, making it a 3 point game.

        DoggieStyle,
I am a huge ND fan watch every game and road trip to a few each year. I had been waiting for someone to bring this up. Didn't want ot myself because it seems to trip some emotions of people out there. But come on...I couldn't believe what I was watching. There is absolutely no logical explanation for kicking the extra point other than covering. Jeff spelled it out perfectly. It was so blatantly obvious that I am surprised it took this long to be talked about. Fishy is the key word!!

There are many instances over the years of this sort of thinh on college football.

The fact is, the alumni of these huge schools, LOVE to bet on their old schools, and the coaches know this. Wanna keep those contributions coming right!

The NFL is not exempt from speculation either. Al Davis and he Raiders come to mind.

            (R) DoggieStyle,

I'll address both of your points. Somehow, monetary deduction might have prompted your angry post.

Rookie MSU Coach Bobby Williams was a career assistant. Apparently, he didn't learn from his predecessor Nick Saban. He was caught up in the moment and has never been there before. He couldn't see past 4th and 10. He blew it, but should learn from it.

The Florida situation is completely different. Coach Steve Spurrier is a cold blooded calculating scoundrel. The only time he'd take a knee would be in church. Imagine ahead by 21pts. and having your qb throwing 43yd TD passes with 5 seconds left in the game??

Let's not get cynical and call in the Warren Commission. It's all style. A rookie journeyman coach with no clue caught up in the emotion. On the other hand, a former half ass pro qb teaching kids how to rub salt into wounds.

Ron, that was my take on MSU game also. There is still no excuse, an assistant should have stepped up and helped enlighten the coach to the proper call. One thing I like about wagering on Fla, if there is a chance to pull the line he will.

Randy, I think Spurrier "pulls the line" in both directions. Refer to Ball St this year and W.Mich last year. I think he was 3-12 his last 15 laying 20+ before Saturday. The guy's just an out and out thief who I wouldn't mind seeing drive off a cliff. Think he's raked in the cash on more than half of those games where he throws his cap in disgust. Hope Hal Mumme has a huge red circle around the date of every match up he has with this guy for the next 10 years!....Also, what the stripes did to Illinois and Bama Saturday was disgraceful, whether or not it had an ATS affect. It affected totals and money lines, and still challenged the integrity of the game. Just watching the refs take Arkansas down the field lends value to the Georgia side next Saturday..Unless they get the same Refs!

                    Ronbets,

Sorry I didn't have a bet on the game. Why do people always think you had a bet on the game to get PISSED OFF about it? That's a sad way to look at everything.

My only bet was on Miss St. and lost, and who knows, that could of been the reason I was pissed off when Mich. St. kicked the extra point.

Going for 2 points when ahead by 5 points after the touchdown with less than 2 minutes to go in the game isn't something a Coach should even think about! Gambling has to be mentioned as a possible reason he kicked the extra point and that is trouble!!!!!!!

It can only give Betting on College Sports a BLACK EYE and help get these LAWS passed, banning betting on College Sports.

                    Yea.... No problem there.......

THAT IS WHY I'M PISSED OFF..............

                        DoggieStyle,

I don't get it. You should change your moniker to Ralph Nader. You can be the ultimate consumer advocate for sports wagering in North America. While you are at it, you can educate the suckers that play Big Six and Big Eight at the crap tables.

Since when does an unemployed BM worry about college athletics being pristine? I'd lay as high as 3-1 you had involvement in one or both of the games being bashed.

On the brighter side, maybe you should root for the ban. You'd have no trouble finding a job with the outlaws here in LV. They'd pay well too. Gringo wages!!

                          Scott -

Let me guess - you had Bama minus the points and Illinois on the money line, right? Oh - you had the under, too?

Isn't the other forum (Square's Hell) a more appropriate venue for venting about your bad beats? Please don't run your fixed-game smack in here. We try to deal with more esoteric issues here, like what a run is worth, or where the best brothels are in Asia.

Hey Rabbit, When you complete your acquisition of Oddswiz, then you can tell me where to run my smack, you smacked ass. FYI, the Michigan game was perfect for me, as I took the points with Illinois and UNLV, and teased both their opponents. I also was happy to see Arkansas aided by the refs as it gave me an opportunity to middle the 44. However, both Illinois and Bama fell victim to ref's incompetence. I thought rabbits had sharp visual accuity, as well as diminutive brains!
