  • Has anyone EVER............

Placed a wager online for MORE than the posted limit, lost the bet, and then have the book ONLY take the posted limit out of your account, refunding the rest?

Example, the limit is $1000, you wager $2000, the bet loses, the book only counts it as a $1000 bet.

    Good question. Probably not.

Here's a similar one: Sportsbook intentionally posts a "bad" line. Winning bets cancelled, losing ones kept.

Just because a bet exceeds a sportsbooks posted limit is no excuse not to pay. There are plenty of times when a book will take a wager in excess of their posted limit by phone.

A bet accepted and confirmed, by either phone or internet, should be a bet.

Only exception could be if the player is notified BEFORE the event starts of a change due to error. If a book takes this approach, they should be ready to allow the player also to call in an cancel his mistakes.

Isn't the limit usually built into the book's software? I would be leery of betting at a book whose software allowed me to bet more than the limit...

Jeff--at which books would this be an issue?

        Sergius,

I know all unified gaming books' software will not stop you from overbetting (goto, sportbet, rosies, aloha, etc).

Gameday, on the other hand, constantly reduces your bet because their limits vary depending on when you place the bet (overnight) on what kind of bet (Ist half), whihc is annoying when you think you can bet more, but at least there is no surprise later. I think Dunes's software might allow overbetting too, but I never did it, so I'm not sure.

Sportbet & Island now have limits built into the software.

There's absolutely no excuse for not having the limits built into the software. If the limits aren't built in, it's because the book in question doesn't want them built in.

If I call a book over the phone, and bet 5 dimes on a game, and they give me a read back confirming, then it's a bet. They can't come to me after the game and state whoops, sorry pal, you were over our posted limits.

Online should be no different. If you don't want people wagering over a certain dollar amount at a certain number, the software should take care of that.

ALL BETS ACCEPTED AND CONFIRMED ONLINE SHOULD BE HONORED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GAMES IN WHICH THERE IS AN OBVIOUS ERROR IN THE POSTED LINE.

Once put in a play via software for a dime.
After the play won, the book claimed my limit was a nickel, paid the nickel, and showed me the door.

Due to the fact that the systems being used are not capable of setting limits on each individual sport this is a problem that can't be solved until someone writes a program that is GOOD. Doesn't need to be GREAT, just one that is GOOD will be better than what's out there.

These systems have on-line limits, BUT these limits are for the persons overall account. They CAN'T set up different limits for football, basketball, racing and so on.

THE OFF-SHORE INDUSTRY NEED A COMPUTOR PROGRAM THAT WORKS! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a huge market because the systems that these big off-shores use are crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somebody....Anybody out there listening. I would be willing to help anyone (for the right price) who is serious about writing a program that works!!!!!!!! There is a gold mine out there waiting..............

Doggie - not sure what books your playing with, but most the ones I do can handle different limits for different sports. Mabey I'm just not reading your post the right way, but heck, let me know the books that have same limits for everything, please.

I fully agree with the fact that a bet taken should be valid (barring of course obvious errors like line reversals). If a book takes a bet above its given limit then it should stick to it. I can't see it any other way.

I place several bets with domestic books in England that are a few times over the limit, but they manually oversee that they get all the action they need. Sometimes I am allowed to hit the limit once, at other times I can bet the limit several times one after the other.

But there's no doubt that all these bets will count. I think all sportsbooks should adopt a similar code of practice, and a bet should be honoured once approved.

It's not the limit per wager, it's by putting a wager in twice that by-passes the limits.

I had a book that I did two props for two dimes each over the internet. I won both props. The book notified me that their limits were only $500 on props. They paid me all of my winnings and simply asked that I not do more than $500 on props in the future.
