Just wondering if any sportbook would allow you to open an account with American Express?

Yo Eaton!
How did you turn out with your search? I assume you wanted to use American Express so you would not be charged a cash advance fee.
Sportingbet used to but they said it was down a while back and I haven't checked back with them.
What about Diners Club? I think you stand a chance of getting that through without a cash advance.

A while back, it was said that using a debit card/check card was not as safe, or as good of an idea, as using a regular mastercard or visa. Not sure what the difference would be though. I was under the impression that you had the same safeguards in place with a debit card with the mastercard logo, as with a credit card.
I had a problem a couple of years back, using a debit card to make a deposit. Most debit cards only allow xxx number of dollars per day. I exceeded that number while processing a deposit, because I wasn't aware of the per day limit. The transaction didn't go thru. I then made the deposit over a three day period, using the maximum allowed per day.
I thought everything was fine, but then, somehow, the ORIGINAL transaction that initially was denied, was allowed to go through.
This took about a month to clear up, and in the meantime, I had to fund the checking account to cover ALL of the transactions. It was eventually taken care of, but it wasn't fun.
Be careful with debit cards!

In the final tally, your liability with a VISA check card is no more than with a credit card. But Jeff is correct that there are more potential short-term snafus.
Let's suppose that an errant or fraudulent charge comes through on your check card. Even though you may not have to pay the charge, it could make other checks you've written bounce in the meantime. So be sure to keep extra $$ in your account to cover the unsuspected.
