  • Gaming Control Update & The Mirage

The Gestapo-like Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) is at it again. Because of them, I had to take a copy of my local power bill to the Mirage for further proof that I reside in Nevada. However, according to the Mirage sportsbook, because my Nevada drivers license address is different from the mailbox address on my power bill, they don't know if what I presented will be enough proof to satisfy the (NGCB).

The Mirage sportsbook workers I talked to don't like the (NGCB) any more than I do. No one other than the NGCB even cares or has complained about the possibility of someone calling in bets from outside the state. My take is that the NGCB enjoys this type of investigation because it gives them the opportunity to legally steal the money from someone caught calling in from outside the state.

By the way, while in the Mirage, I ran into a guy who was the long-time Riviera runner for Jeff N's operation. This guy now claims to make his living betting progressive video poker machines. However, he said the gig is getting tougher and tougher because he is getting 86ed from more and more casinos. Yep, even slot-machine players get 86ed.

Professional Video Poker players will not be booted from most casinos if they adhere to these guidelines.

    #1 Try to be courteous.

    #2 Try to be inconspicuous.

#3 Don't play the role of educator.

#4 Toke(minimal) the right personell are hitting jackpot.

reno, which Mirage workers did you talk to? As far as I am concerned, there is only one that counts, and that's Robbie boy. He is in bed with the gaming commission and you better believe it. Where do you think he is going to work when the MGM/Mirage gives him the axe? I told you in a post before about what they did to me. If anyone ever comes to my house and robs me I am going to report the Mirage sportsbook and thier employees to the police because they were so adamant abut knowing where I lived, a PO box address was not good enough for them!!! Do you believe that?!?!

ronbets, why close up an account where you know 99.9% that you are going to get paid and where you don't have to talk to any idiot clerks on the phone to make a wager. I love their system, works for me.

reno, what prompted them to ask you for your id?

Segundo, I didn't pay attention to the names of the people I talked to this morning. I was told by the Mirage people that the Gaming Control Board went through the Mirage records and chose 1000 files that had to updated with proof of residency. And, luck of luck, I was a chosen one. Hell, I feel like I just won the Lottery.

Had a phone account at mirage for the last 5 yrs. and last football season I decided I wasn't going to do much betting so I closed my account. When baseball started up I decided to reopen next door at Treasure Island instead. Thought it might be a little easier getting in and out to the parking garage than mirage. When I showed my Nv. drivers license to the supervisor to do the paperwork, he said it was no good because I had my PO Box on there instead of a street address. He said gaming regulations passed last year required a street address. I had just renewed my drivers license a few months earlier and put my PO Box on there since I get all my mail sent there. He did inform me that I could bring in a lease agreement or a utility bill to prove I lived in nevada. A couple of days later I brought both documents in. Another supervisor was on duty and she said those things were no good. I had to have a street address on license. She called Yolanda at mirage book to confirm this and was told that she was correct. Upset about this, I went next door to mirage to talk to Yolanda (#2 in charge behind Robert Walker) and I knew going in that she has a reputation of being difficult to deal with. I showed her my utilty bill and she didn't even want to see it. I showed her my 1 yr lease agreement which, by the way was to expire the next day. Even though it was a legal and binding document, she gave me the 3rd degree and told me to bring a new lease agreement in. I told her I shouldn't have to because this was still good. I also told her that I had a phone account there for the last 5 yrs and she went in the back room to check it out. She came back and still gave me a hard time and asked me why I went to treasure island instead of coming back to mirage to reopen. I told her I thought it might be less foot traffic and be easier to get in and out of casino. She didn't believe me and grew more suspicious. She asked me where I worked and I told her. She quickly interrupted me and said why didn't you say so in the first place and why didn't I identify myself, and before I could answer her she said "NO PHONE ACCOUNT!" and turned around and walked in the back room leaving me with my mouth open. I couldn't help but laugh a little because I was shocked by what had just happened. I just turned around and left. I will never bet there again no matter what. I
cannot understand how someone can rise to a top management position like "Yolie" when she displays that kind of attitude towards customers, especially since I've played there for years.

balsy, interesting story. Can you say what type of job you have, e.g. work in a nearby casino, for a sports service, other?

              sportshobby,

sorry, I'd rather not say. My job is not that important of a position, she didn't even bother to ask. I could of been the janitor for all she knew, it wouldn't of mattered. It had more to do with where I worked, I guess. Books have the right to refuse service to anyone, thats their choice and I can live with that, although I may not like it. Its the way I was treated that pisses me off. I would of expected that that kind of treatment from binion's horseshoe, like in the 80's when the security guards use to beat up on the customers if they thought you tried to pull a fast one.

AussieVamp2, I have no idea what the minimum bet limit is at the Mirage or anywhere else. My only concern at any joint is the maximum bet size. And the maximum bet limit at the Mirage is embarrasingly low: one dime risk on sides in baseball. In other words, if Pedro Martinez is -250, the maximum bet is $1000 to win $400. Maybe another BW member can provide the minimum limit info.

I forgot to add that I am just talking about the phone account limits at the Mirage. They take a lot more money over the counter, maybe even 5 dimes in baseball.

what I was wondering was, if you ring them up and bet 25 dollars 50 times or something like that, do they ring you back after every bet?
