  • Watching Out for Uncle Sam

This post takes off from a previous thread in which the solvency of books was discussed.

Here is a hypothetical situation I would like advice on. Let's say there was a guy with $30,000 in cash that he acquired outside of his regular income loop and he decided to protect this money from government poachers and not report it. And let's say he wanted to send it to off-shore books so he could step up his betting activities. Let's say that he had the kind of economic life that might well draw IRS attention anyway, so he wanted to be very careful about not leaving a paper trail in case of an audit.

The hypothetical question would then be, excluding couriers and recognizing that no way is absolutely safe, what would be the safest way for this individual to get his cash to an offshore book? And what would be the safest way for him to take payments should he happen to win?

    Hi:
Hypothetically, invite me and one other very large friend to mule 10 dimes apiece in person.
You could get it there with many $500 Western Union money orders with no name on them (hypothetically not all at once). Some books don't care if the money is coming from Bozo T Clown but it is a different story coming back. Talk to them ahead of time. Just mail it, nothing with a certified letter kind of receipt.
Only other clean shot is Vegas/offshore middle plays. No guarantee it will go the right way.

I'd say money orders would be the safest way to send the money. The less you send in one envelope, the better. There is really no way to move money into the states without a paper trail. Taking payouts by cashiers check is probably best.

Would it be possible to fly the cash down in person, then do the same when it came time to collet?

Ghost that is what I meant by being a mule. Only problem is the visa. Why do you go to xxx 4-5 times a year, etc.? Once a year is probably cool especially if you take your wife or family on vacation. But, you have to talk to the sportsbook. You want to be able to cash a check that has "not" been written on an American bank. You also don't want to get mugged. This is all very theoretical and very hard to solve.
