    gerome-

the best way to play futures in the NFL, as well as most other sports, is to let the season begin and see how teams are playing. There are shifts in the balance of power every year, which occasionally can be dramatic and are generally not predictable before the season starts(witness last season where you could have had great odds on St. Louis even in the 2nd half of the season). The key is to look for a likely winner at high odds and bet that team before the odds are adjusted. Some years you won't find any good bets because the original favorites end up looking like the winner. If your team makes it to the playoffs and wins a couple of games you can usually bet against them in the last game and win money no matter who wins. If you want a direct opinion on your question about Tampa Bay, I would say that 12-1 is good odds, but its not a play I'm making. Hope this helps - good luck.

        gerome,

With all my knowledge of the NFL? Bottom line I can't beat it. Your opinion is just as good as the next guy. Tampa Bay? I don't like the humidity. The new stadium is beautiful. Watch for torrential rain in Nov.

The fellows here @ Bookies Hell P.F. have educated opinions. Actually, you should post this topic there.

The NFL is a particularly tricky sport to get a handle on from year to year, especially now with all the changes, it has made this worse.

If you don't understand it, I wouldn't be playing with futures, unless you are talking 5 bucks

Gerome, just to elaborate on the above, unless you are clearly in tune to some facts that the public is not aware of, the beginning of the season is a horrible time to bet futures. I love futures, but like to make the bets when I have a good idea that a team is a lot better than the linesmaker is giving them credit for. Guys with good knowledge of players in all position, probably can do fine with futures this early, but for someone fairly new to a sport, let the season flow a little bit before getting involved. At that point if Tampa Bay or someone else starts impressing you as a possible contender, try to get a jump on the oddsmakers. Remember, the future is just as cloudy for the oddsmakers as it is for public, and therefore they sting you with LOT OF JUICE. Later in the season, you will have more throw outs eating up some of the juice. Also you have to factor in injuries and such things as probable home field advantage situations, whether the team is good enough to win on the road in the playoffs and doing so when everybody is 0-0 is a very tough task to say the least.
