The end of an era: Is bookmaking gone for good?

The Boomkamers Association of America projects that by the year 2001 the number of gainfully employed bookmakers will fall to an all-time low of 2-3. It seems that the new breed of sportsbook employs preprogrammed rules for setting and moving lines, saving the cost of a bookmaker and eliminating the risk of gambling. Successful implementation of the strategy requires the sportsbooks to kick out any player who wins for more than 3 days in a row. Industry experts are anxiously awaiting increases in corporate profits that will surely follow.

They FLAT OUT don't call that much. Not even close. The smaller players are twice as hard to deal with. The whales will call 10 minutes before kick-off and need the FAVORITES and call back 5 times before he's ready to play. That's not a problem though?

It's just another in a long line of EXCUSES people need to justify their actions of ducking WISEGUY ACTION. It's just another excuse..........

Tying up the phones is a completely separate issue from wiseguy action. A total square playing a dollar a game could do this, just as well as the big scalper. I don't think any of us have a problem with somehow limiting this kind of abuse, even to the point of booting a player for it in extreme cases.

No its not! My above scenario is an exaggeration, but basically factual. Tying up phones is a common trait with followers(1-2min.late), stonewall scalpers(parasites that wont move unless aces wired), and wiseguys cruising for a sleeper # to "steal".

I'm a retired BM that had a good track record. The only people that got thrown out were the stiffs. Oh, I forgot to tell ya, I USED MY OWN MONEY. You know out of pocket, my own boss. f this sounds foreign to you D/Style keep reading. I was involved with a BM case that made the cover of Time Magazine(early 70s). Beat that and now I'm looking to play into any office you're running.
Why didnt you answer my other post pertaining to Wrigley totals? Let's resubmit, "If you consider yourself the bold and daring bookmaker you want to project(Mariner total), why didnt you throw out Cub totals overnight?" Do it now and I'll be your first customer and will guarantee you a bet.

Ron, the difference is this: most of us players wouldn't have much trouble with a book limiting or booting (in extreme cases) a player that ties up the phones without playing. The raging debate between some "bookmakers" and the players is about books that boot players just for taking good numbers and winning.

I wanted to point out how weak it was for all these books to NOT put up a Mariners Total. I should not have singled out Reality because nobody used this total. There was nothing hard about it. It was an E.S.P.N. game. To me this was CUSTOMER SERVICE POST, Not how good I am.

WISEGUYS didn't want to bet this game. I was not risking the offices money any more than any other game. The everyday customers wanted to bet this game.

You guys twist this around and all of a sudden we are talking about BOOK WITH YOUR MONEY, and that wasn't the topic. We are also talking about YOUR A GAMBLING BOOKIE, and that is not the topic or close to the truth. And I never have started a day without asking My boss if he had anything he wanted done.

I would do whatever they wanted. I was lucky to have bosses that let me do what I thought was the right thing. I have NEVER COST any of them a dime. In fact I have made them all good MONEY. I would do it again if the right offer came up. Booking was alot fun though.

You guys keep saying book with your own money. I NEVER wanted to BOOK BETS. But I am very good at it. I don't want to OWN an off-shore BOOK. Isn't that allowed? I just don't want any problems that come with owning any businesses.

But I love this business.

I will not answer you silly question about Cub totals. It's hard enough putting them up first thing in the morning.

If I was Booking I would love it if you played with me. I want every player who thinks he's sharp to play with me. But I would want ever player. PERIOD.

If you can take advantage of me, Good for you. But I would make it real hard for you.......
