  • Who uses Don Best Premium Service?

Am I correct in assuming that 99% of the people that use this service are either A. scalpers B. steam chasers or C. sportsbooks? I don't see the average handicapper paying $500 a month for this.

Since I have never used this service, could someone tell me if there are scalping opportunites all day long, or are the opportunities usually within a small window of a time frame and only the fastest/ experienced scalpers are able to do this successfully?

Survivor, I can only speak for myself. I am a scalper, and my life revolves around the Don Best Premium Service. I would pay the monthly $500 bill for that service before I would pay my apartment rent. If for some reason I could no longer receive the Service, I'd quit scalping and probably get a job flipping burgers at the local Jack in the Box.

*wishes his bankroll was large enough to play with so that he could quit his day job*
      *sigh*

I know this much. If I'm a big player and it's an average NFL Sunday and I'm geting ready to bet 5 or 10 thousand on my best game, I'm going to want to bet that big money at the best available price. I guarantee you at least once a year, the premium service will save you your bet. Also, if you have the premium service, books cannot easily cheat you or rate you. They know you're looking right at them while you're on the phone. Right now Don Best has it going.
        1. The took the rotation (schedule) away from Feist.
        2. The have a great free site with Island Xpress. No matter how hard Lou Diamond tries-they'll just top anything he does.
        3. They control all the clone shops. What does every sports book in the world have in common? Don Best line service.
        4. They post numbers on all games first, making them a must for wise guys looking for a mistake.
Here is the bottom line. If you can't afford the premium service-you should not be betting big money. This service is a must if you shop lines.

I guess my basic question revolves around the lagistics of 'scalping'. For example, does it require sitting in front of a screen all day long? Are the 'scalping' opportunities very hard to get? Can you just turn on your computer, find your 'scalp of the day' and turn your computer off? What would be the minimum bankroll requirements to make this a worthwhile project?

Survivior- It is easier to get a real job than to make "easy money" scalping. To make a decent wage your starting bankroll should be high 5 figures low 6's. As many accounts as possible. There are many people with the above requirements that can't make a go of it. The best have an instinct that is tough to learn. It is a feel for the numbers, which ones will stay, which ones must be taken now. They have a feel for which way numbers are likely are move. To be succesful you must take leads and often hold a position, sometimes it works for you sometimes you have to eat juice. It is not for the meek and risk adverse. The days of Taking 15 and laying 10 at the same time are gone. It also helps to know the games the major players are planning on playing(goodluck with that one).

Survivor, in the good old days, before I got "old and slow," I never had to sit in front of the Don Best Screen morning, noon, and night. But nowadays, due to my diminished skills, I have to work twice as hard to make half as much.

reno, have you ever considered being a bookmaker overseas instead of a scalper?

Good question, Survivor. It would seem to me the most qualified linesman for an offshore shop would be the professional player who spends 80+ hours a week staring at a Don Best screen. Scalpers would also make good BMs because they know best how not to be exposed when the numbers are most volatile.

For myself, I've spent the last two weeks
in front of Don Best trying to convince myself that I'm not paying $500 a month to watch the test signal for the Emergency Broadcast System.

If things don't improve quickly, I'm going to take a Renoesque tour of the Caribbean with resume in hand. BOOKYBASHR, something tells me you need an ON SIGHT network administrator for your server. Any takers?

Survivor, if I were 10 years younger and interested in a long-term commitment, I probably would have partnered up with someone and opened an offshore book. I have never booked before, and at this stage of my life I'm not motivated to start a career on the other side of the counter. If the scalping dries up, I'm ready to devote myself to writing.

bbuster, you are right. I'm planning on betting my own baseball plays next season. Between now and then I'll do the research--by hand--that I need to do. I was planning on betting my ex-scalping partner's computer-system plays, but when our scalping partnership ended, he didn't want to give me the plays, even though I offered him 25% of my profits.

ha ha. Reminds me of a great line I heard from an old poker buddy. Someone was harrassing one of his friends at the poker table about paying his rent, so he fire's back with,"You're not gonna spend the gambling money on rent are you?"
