  • Question for Reno

Do you think you have a bettter chance of getting a better price on an underdog offshore and conversely sometimes cheaper favorites in Las Vegas? My theory is that some books offshore are reluctant to hold as much?

By the way when in Nevada can visitors or residents call offshore to make wagers but cannot use the internet to submit them? Ever heard of anybody being hassled for useing the internet on sportsgambling in Nevada?

Bucky, though Vegas phone accounts move toward offshore lines, I would say that, in general, offshore outs get a higher pecentage of square action and, hence, more favorite action. Other guys out of Vegas should also throw in their 2-cents worth here. However, the offshore biz has changed dramatically the past couple of years. I used to see a lot more public action on favorites that would seem to just keep going up all day until the Pokers would go the other way. Now, that kind of action is missing.

Your question about doing offshore stuff from Vegas has come up before. A couple of years ago, a big-time guy who had runners was told get out of town if he wanted to do offshore from here. And he left the state. Otherwise, I haven't heard about anyone being bothered.

Thanks, so you get your favorites early offshore and wait till posttime for your dog wagers. But, you don't think what the book is willing to hold is a factor offshore?

I just think the Vegas lines move less (and I've been there ten times in 3 years and Reno once). So later in the day I thought Vegas was cheaper than the offshores on favorites. I also thought it was darn tough to beat Vegas betting moneylines on favorites and their dog prices never came up as much as the offshores so you couldn't go that way.

        Bucky,

I think its cyclical. Depending on where and what groups are playing, etc. If you'r trying to be a market timer, it might be tougher than picking winners!

Reiterating, interstate and intercountry betting from Nv is illegal.

          Ronbets.
Can you clarify just a bit about Nevada?
Apparently, you are saying it is illegal to bet offshore with the telephone, also. This is kinda weird but am I correct that a Nevada resident who wants to bet offshore would have to go to Arizona to do it?

Bucky, let me see if I got this right. You want to come to Vegas and bet casinos, offshores and maybe a private BM from Hometown, USA. Beautiful, but a little apprehensive about breaking Nv laws. Forget about Az and get on a jet to McCarron Airport. Your odds are greater getting into trouble in transit than by being here for an extended stay.
