  • Pokers to Start Again

A guy who moves for the Pokers told me they will probably start again next week. The reason they temporarily quit was not due losing, it was due to heat from the government.

Reno, I love your posts. I've learned a lot. But can you do me a favor and describe what "Pokers" are, and what they mean to sportsbooks, small bettors, and the government? I would really enjoy reading this. Thanks.

PabloSonLoco, the Pokers are a syndicate, or group of guys, that bets huge amounts of money on games, thereby causing betting lines to "steam," or move intensely and almost simultaneously at virtually all sportsbooks.

They mean big action for sportsbooks, great opportunuity for big or small bettors, and another target for the rip-off crazed U.S. government to go after.

Do they cause that steam so that they can get the "real" odds they want for the other team? Such as swaying the line with $500,000, only to play the opposite side when the line moves at say, $800,000. Or are they just really big players that like the actual picks they initially make?

A question perhaps deserving a a separate thread.

Does anyone have any data or experience in playing the opposite side of these games, after the move has settled out? One would think that the bandwagon effect would drive the line too far, to the point that there is value in the other side.

I don't want to go into any further detail about the Pokers. Anyone who subscribes to the Don Best Service can see where the number is when the move hits and where it ends up afterward. And anyone can determine if it's more lucrative to be on the move or to go against it.

                          Reality,

When he died he left with a lot of my money.
I think I still have a tape with him trying to con me.

Reno, I don't doubt that there is benefit in being on the same side as the steam plays, so long as you can play the original number.

My question was whether the followers drive the price beyond value, to the point that there is value in playing the other side AFTER the move has settled out.

It would of course take a lot of data to make a conclusion. Buy my guess is that there is value in both - the original plays and the opposite side after the big moves. This has to be a scalper's heaven.

Glad to see REALITY back posting. Can't remember the REASON you left!...There is one thing to be learned from guys like Doc. Never be afraid to ask for a couple cents or a half point. The book may need your action on that side. Of course, don't demand it on every game you bet. And don't die owing! Come football, and those moves hit, and a total goes from 38.5 to 40.5, I'll be out there beggin' for 41. Games like this that fall 24-17 can make the difference in your entire season. Sometimes you side a game you would have lost, only because you weren't afraid to ask!
