mls,
I hope you were being sarcastic.
I know that getting paid is the most important thing, but that one stipulation shouldn't mean that a book is an "A" book.
Getting paid on time, having problems resolved quickly and amicably, and great customer service, are just some other important factors that should be adhered to before a book should be considered a top-notch book.
Too many people are letting a sportbook's standards slip by the wayside.
"They always pay", is justification enough for some people to say a book is "solid".
Books keep making errors in their lines, and the players are always blamed for "taking advantage of the book". There is the obvious factor of human error, but more often than not, it is lazy bookmaking, lack of staff, and other safety procedures that the book doesn't want to pay for.
Those people who keep blaming the player, and keep defending the practices and mistakes of the sportsbook will guarantee that these offshore books never strive for perfection.
Why should they?
A lot of bettors lower the standards and expectations they expect from a sportsbook. And these sportsbooks know that. The books know that offshore betting is the only way to bet for most people who don't live in Las Vegas, other than illegal bookmaking. So, most of these books do "just enough" to keep their customers happy.
If some of the Las Vegas sportsbooks pulled some of the stunts that these sportsbooks did, it would be front page news, and there would be a riot or demonstration at the sportsbook.
How would I know every time an offshore outlet stiffs Joe Blow? Every time I feel unappreciated, ripped off, or mistreated by a sportsbook, I just have to accept it. How else am I going to bet? I don't want to move to Vegas. I either take my money elsewhere or just stay there and hope I get them back by winning a big chunk from them.
There are books I have been with that I would give a 6 to 7 rating. There are some that were just horrible. I definitely haven't been with any 10's yet.
We the bettors should be hard to please and very demanding. Only then will the sportsbooks go that extra mile.
