So you are saying you got thrown out of 7 little shops for winning too much and being too sharp. You must have been there in the first place because they were late to change line moves and you could get a better number.
Was it your handicapping skill or takeing advantage of their late line changes that led to it? No big deal, if you made some money while you were there and got paid.

        What constitutes winning too much.....

For example a guy opens an account for say $300 and in 2 months betting $50 $100 maybe a couple $200 bets and has his account over $2500.. Is the sportsbook alarmed ??

I wouldnt think so the amount is small so to speak.

Now lets say the same guy opens for $3000 and bets $500, $1000 maybe a couple $2k bets, and in the same period has his account at $25000.

Is the sportsbook alarmed, I say probably so....

I guess my point/question is for a normal player not one that is scalping sides, is when will the book look to ax or become suspicious ???? Not that there is a set answer just looking for ideas/comments

        Thanks

Usually it's not winning that gets a player thrown out of these "places". It that the player calls and gets a number for a play before the lazy BM can change it. Guys playing the moves and originators are frowned upon because the lack of talent running some shops can't keep up. It's easier to move with air on the DB screen than deal to faces on the wiseguys and have clerks hold games and shout in the sportsbook. It's creates more tension in the office and stress.

I don't agree with this form of booking. I was taught by one of the best, who didn't even want to know which side we needed, just the "write on the game". Scott K is right! and another thing, Most BM's won't shell out the bucks for a top notch linesmover when you can pay someone clerk wages to just watch the DB screen and clone the respected stores.
I thank God we have two of the best in the business running our office.

              Jeff & Scott L.

              Thanx 4 replies...

When a punter is "someone who beats the move consistently before it hits the screen" - If the wager is relatively small why would the BM bother... I guess I and few people out there would like know what
relatively small is for which BM establishment?

For a line to be moved at certain books there would have to be (IMO) a fair enough of $$$$
bet to force such an occurence OR a whale has plunged a humongous amount.

I probably am not glued to the DonBest line to notice moves at such a frequency but wouldn't BM who are slow still take bets from a list of losing whales or squares???

Not to put anyone down here but whales IMO are the ones that do not cry in this forum when they are stiffed...

              I'm not a whale Fedya.

Intheknow, then I guess you didn't work at Coast resorts, where it seems like they stress being 10 dimes long on the Raiders.

Sportshobby, If I remember correctly, Intheknow does not want wiseguys playing into his joint. So if he tells us the name of the store, they will immediately get a bad rep in Bettorsworld.

                      Reno,
I said "I" didn't like wiseguys,I'm not the final decision maker on that. We don't screen players and we don't kick them out for winning. We book alot of wiseguys and maybe you are one of them. I don't know. That is for our sportsbook managers to handle and we have two of the best in the business. What BM wouldn't rather book the general public than professionals? The professional has a greater chance to cut our hold than the regular player. Just business.

It's the only way I'm allowed to post my thoughts by my partners. I can't speak for the company just myself.

                      Slots-
Any large store can even it's books on a game if they want to. lay-off, or get out of whack and lets the wiseguys take back the other side. If you don't want sides, you don't have to.

intheknow, that's cool. Actually it would be helpful to have insights and opinions from most all sportsbook operators. And their frank opinions probably couldn't/shouldn't be submitted as "official" postings anyway. It's probably better to have a separate posting name for the official stuff.

                          Scott K,

Pardon my watchdog welcome the other night. You come here with good credentials. I agree with your initial post with a couple of exceptions.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<"I used 2 different lines and the scalpers loved it cause squares were laying 7 and there were 6s around. I moved the wiseguy line to 6.5 and the Reno s of the world flocked in".
                          >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Great plan in theory or maybe you have applied it numerous times. But I guarantee the real Reno s of the world(tough players) would not lay 6.5 if as you say there were sixes around. Myself, Id rather gamble than throw juice in the garbage.

Years ago the major networks ran public service announcements of Yule Brenner posthumously. Ol Yule had a 4pack per day habit and died of lung cancer. Made me quit.:}-Ron

                            Ronbets,

You have it backwards. The Reno's would take the 6 1/2 when everyone had 6's and the squares were laying 7 therefore if the game fell 7 we could side the players. In the NFL I got to do it around 3 or 4 times a month and if I were lucky I could side the players around once every seven weeks. One Sunday in 1996 I'll never forget it. The squares were laying 10 1/2 and the wiseguys were taking 10 due to the fact everyone had 9 1/2 on the game. This scenerio happened twice on the same Sunday and believe or not both games came 10.
