You have to tell them your unit stake before they quote a line. You must bet 1-5 units. If your unit stake is $100, then you MUST bet $100-$500 on the game. In one instance I wanted to bet a game in progress that was not on TV. It was a tie game. They took my bet with the stipulation that the game must still be tied at the end of that inning...otherwise, no action.
