PADDY Power is to target the UK betting market with the launch this week of a new online service and plans to open a string of new shops in major cities.
Paddypower.com will be launched in Ireland this week and will be launched in the UK in July.
Among the unique services being offered to UK punters is the ability to place bets on the UK lotto, something which British based bookmakers are barred from doing.
The proposed move of Paddy Power into the UK has already precipitated a major upheaval in the betting industry there if rival firms are to be believed.
Earlier this year, Victor Chandler cited the proposed move of Paddy Power into the UK as one of the reasons for moving his group's betting operations to an offshore location in Gibraltar where they can take advantage of zero tax rates.
Chandler said the 5pc tax rate enjoyed by Paddy Power would make allow the Irish firm to undercut UK based bookmakers who had to charge 9pc tax to clients.
