There's no mystery here. The Heat players weren't "questioning the integrity of the game." No sports fan went, "Oh my God Tim Hardaway thinks the refs are crooked! Maybe they really are!" The remarks of the Heat players were the ordinary frustrated woofing heard from every basketball player on every level under the extraordinary stress of having a couple calls go against them in a big game. And that's exactly how the NBA understood it and rightly treated it.

Further, I don't understand the comparison of Reggie Miller and John Rocker. What has Miller ever said about New Yorkers that compares to how Rocker characterized them? Len's unstated suggestion is that there's a double standard in this country based on race. Duh. But it's a complicated double standard and the example of Rocker and Miller both "hating" New York and therefore both somehow equally guilty of hate doesn't wash.
