  • Excalibur Purge

The Excalibur sportsbook manager has "retired." One supervisor was demoted and the other was fired. The one who was fired, Richard, coincidentally, used to be a supervisor at the Stardust in the 80s under Scott Shettler. And Richard, along with another supervisor, Syl, alway gave me a hard time because I was a threat to the "Franchise," Sam Brown. I had to "behave," or I would have been 86ed for taking Sam's numbers. So Richard not only cost me bucks at the Dust, he and his "deals" cost me money at the Excalibur.

The Excalibur had the option of having their betting lines automatically (computer) updated on the Don Best Screen. Instead, they opted to update the lines manually. Naturally, this enabled them to prevent regular bettors from getting the good numbers that someone paid them for.

The good news is that the phone account--with the same limits--is supposedly going to re-open next week.

Same crap was going on at mirage until they cleaned up house- ship the boys back to stubenville/pittsburg. Now everyone bets into the same number.

      Reno,

You sound very vindictive in this sad situtation. Lets show some sensitivity here! Good people lost their jobs over alleged gray area activities. They have families to feed just like you and I.

As far as the old Stardust, Sam Brown was a high rolling regular sports bettor. He pulls rank over any johnny-come-lately.RHIP. Scotty Shettler had been nothing but outstanding during his tenure there. To insinuate and skulduggery on his performance(prior archive post) is nothing short of defamation of charactor. This man has a future, a bright one at that!-Ron

Ronbets, Scotty denied any involvement in the Sam Brown situation. I don't blame him for anything. The idea of "pulling rank" at a casino sportsbook bespeaks of "deals." But more power to Sam for what he set up. And I'm not vindictive. Like I said before, I have fond, not bitter, memories of the old Dust. And I always liked and respected Sam Brown, a true gentleman. I'm just telling it like it was.

Hey, if we could bring back the old Dust with Scott Shettler running the place, I'd just love it.

If someone owns their own sportsbook, like a Gene Mayday did, then he can set up whatever deals he wants. But if you work for a corporation as a salaried sportsbook employee, it is not your prerogative to set up deals and pocket money under the table.

Ask BW posters like Segundo if they appreciated these deals, which cost them equal opportunity at making money.

          Ronbets,

These employees have made casino owners hate the sportsbooks. They use this as an excuse to not trust bettors and they can't trust the employees who ripped them off!

Ronbets these managers stole money plain and simple! If this happened 20 years ago they would have had major problems if you know what I mean. Old Vegas would have taken care of them.

The sportsbook managers of the 80's have buried sportsbetting in Las Vegas forever! Thanks alot Scotty, Richard, Jack, Jimmy, Nick, and on and on and on. You can't defend them! They were trusted and stole.

            Doggie/Style,

Like hell I cant defend them! If the sportsbook managers you ve listed and a couple others were all working pre-corporate Vegas, a few would be legends. On your list is a gentleman suspended x# days for offering a high roller a half point to balance his one sided position. Corporate suits didnt realize the move was for the houses benefit. Corporates have no clue. "We are not winning" therefore they must be stealing. Most of the above can still obtain a sheriffs card. Wheres the larceny??-Ron

Giving someone a half point for no reason is not fishy? Letting someone get an extra nickle on almost every play is not fishy? Letting your special player bet the openers at your book and giving them a point or 10 cents better when they know they have moved every else is not fishy? And this makes these players sharp? Most of the honest Middlers/scalpers were not involved in these deals.

You know there are not any laws that can protect a Casino from these inside deals. They have to trust their managers plain and simple!!!!

Also these Casinos did not get ride of the trash because they were losing! They finally figured out these Managers were sucking money everyday from the Casinos they ran with these deals! All the big Books in Vegas were very profitable and could have been more profitable with honest straight up Managers! You know this is the truth or you don't know what your talking about!

Reno is 100% correct. If it was their money (Gene Mayday) they can do what ever they chose, Just like most off-shores. If you are working for a Casino and it's not your money YOU ARE STEALING.

Also Sheriff card Smeriff card, Anyone who gives these people a job is just asking for it unless they want to watch them 24 hours.

Why are these great Las Vegas sportsbook managers not running any off-shore books? Maybe it's because the off-shore people know all about them. No?

Second that doggie. A lot of stealing, helping out special "friends", etc was going on with many on that list aside from all of their good deeds. What comes around in general, goes around. Good vibes and bad vibes.

                  Reno,DoggieStyle,Slots,

Stealing? Kind of harsh. Betting late, past posting, that grand theft. Lets face it, insider trading exists everywhere. That doesnt make it right, but I doubt its as rampant as you say. Terminals print tickets, time, prices and amounts. There are audits and controls.

You might think you are entitled to have first shot at the virgin A.M. #s. Here you are at 8 - 9am, Don Best beeping and armed with the strongest #s from the largest books in the world. You want to loot joints like the Excalibur and any other slow moving object. Well my friends thats almost a mismatch. Stealing, no too harsh. Maybe myself as sports director want you guys in last where I could earn. Lets face it you are not a desirable a.m. customer. My opening line would be given to handicappers that gamble, not parasitic scalpers who dont move unless they are wired with aces.Fair? basically giving my property a chance.

Casinos losing because of management theft? You are off the road. They win less than they should (2-3%) because they cant compete with groups, beards and you guys. By beards, I mean table play whales with extra high limits fronting for groups or sharps. These groups are also wired space age comm. and data. Mismatch.

Dont say you were robbed. You were just out maneuvered.!!

Reno - now that is something I never even considered. Do the big boys actually reel in Whales and get them to post for them. Wow - good idea actually. Use their high limits to get in the plays they wouldn't be able to. These sports book staff really are up against it aren't they.

Ronbets, not only do I have to look at my ugly, stupid mug everytime I go to the bathroom, but now you tell me that I'm nothing but an undesirable, parasitic scalper. Cripes, the last bit of self-respect I had was vested in my success as a scalper/middler. Take that away and there's nothing left in life for me but Haagen-Dazs and Johnny Walker Black Label. I think I'll give Dr. Laura a call and see if she can help me.

Just as nature needs vultures to remove deads carcasses, BMs need scalpers to buy back numbers that squares and bandwagoners have driven beyond reason. In fact, if you don't believe that BMS truly love us scalpers, just watch as, one-by-one, they come to my support in this thread.

Oh, yeah, before Richard was canned at the Excalibur, he called me a worthless scalper without an opinion. And friends wonder why I'm a big fan of Rodney Dangerfield.

Uh, Yea... well there is a reason why some of those guys cannot work in Nevada anymore and it doesnt have anything to do with customers-sharp or otherwise. I can tell you first hand that between the IRS and the GCB a few guys on your list are to blame for THEIR actions and no one else's-period. Hard to believe? Not here in Nevada it's not.

Hey Ronbets, according to this above quote of yours you seem to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to sportsbetting, but the guy that was betting into the Exc. first in the morning would not know what to bet on if God took him by the hand to show him. He bet what he was told to bet on.

                              Segundo,

Once in a while, bookmakers need to be thrown a bone. Loosen up! Lay 2 with the Knicks--take back +3 Indy max 11/10 vig. Lay 140 Houston take +140 Atl-wash. Show other than hardcore play. The pennies you lose go a long way toward goodwill.--Ron
