  • INTERNET GAMBLING FUNDING PROHIBTION ACT

This bill if passed would prevent the use of certain bank instruments for internet gambling and other purposes.

After reading the proposed bill it seems clear that they will make it illegal to send funds for offshore gaming on just about every way you can think of sending it,Credit cards and wire transfers included.

This will have a huge impact on the offshore gaming industry and I think the way of the local bookie might make a big comeback.

There's way too many ways around all that. Bottom line is, the gov't can't stop you from sending money to other countries.

Hey, maybe you have a relative or friend in need of some quick cash, like in those Western Union Commercials.

Or maybe you're credit card statement says you purchased something via the net from a company in Antigua.

Can't stop you from mailing a check.

Worst case scenario, more offshore books use runners in the states.......

Plug one hole, another one opens.

Everyone who has an interest in this needs to WRITE or CALL their reps in D.C. Believe or not, that stuff carries weight. Why else do MADD and NRA have members bombast members of congress with emails, phones, letters?

I'm writing mine this week. You can't complain later if you don't make an effort to stop this BS now.

Suppose you're sending the funds for telephone wagering. It would seem that that's OK.

I also wonder about the possibility of an offshore bank account. There's certainly no law against sending money to one's own offshore bank. And from the offshore bank to the sportsbook, I'd be surprised if this bill even covered that situation.

Buy a money order for $500 anywhere for 59 cents and send by FedEx (or 10 or 20 money orders at different places).

            Whats the problem?

sportshobby, you are correct about sending the money to an offshore account but it would probably just be seized or frozen by the authorities in time. You are better off doing it the way mls suggested if you can wait a week or so, money orders are the best way to go... until congress passes a law outlawing foreign money orders, just a matter of time.

The US Government cannot or will not be able to control all credit card companies. The ones that are affilated with US BANKS, yes they can. Completely foreign banks, they have no say so over them. One would have to obtain a credit crad from overseas. I've said this here before a hundred times. Western Union works hand in hand with the US Government (IRS CID division). They report all suspicious activities. Money orders are ok but they still leave a paper trail. FED EX will eventually be a no-no because all FED EXS to offshore sports books (to & from) are opened by US CUSTOMS.

I remeber seeing a sportsbook that allowed you to deposit money through the use of a 1-900 number. They had 2 numbers 1 was for $100 and one was for $500. You listened to some message and got the money in your account right away.

This is bull if George W Bush gets in bye bye to this bill. Government is dumb if they want to crack down make it legal betting on ballgames donot hurt anyone like drugs. Horse and dog racing is legal so why should one not be able to bet on ball game. If there was no betting on game tv ratings would be low.
