  • I'm up in the air about CANBET.

While they have some of the friendliest operators in the business and DO PAY(I have received several checks from them) A few months back I called and asked why I was being put on hold for long periods of time and suggested they put on more operators for the upcoming March Madness. I will repeat word for word what the manager of the book(who I am sure was from the states) told me
"If you don't like the way I run my f.....g book take your f.....g money out of here and hung up on me. Granted I have been beating them up pretty bad the last 4 months but wow! I did not expect that and after speaking to some of the operators there I get the feeling I am not the only one who feels this way about him.I mean what kind of customer service is that? I really was trying to inform them since they may be new to March Madness that they will need more help in the up and coming weeks. Also a few operators said that they were in the middle of being bought out(which is not to be a worry)and that as far as they new this person would still be running the book.
Maybe Aussie could add some comments to this thread for he is the one that referred me there 18 months ago.And I do like there lines and there limits are fine and most importantly they pay but.....

As far as customer service has come...things like that set it back a bit. Frankly unless one is into soccer and non-US sports, I don't see Canbet as being a competitive alternative to post-up with. I'm not trying to slam them, but business is business and with no sign up bonus there are, I think many other alternatives. This may sound a bit anal but I keep a list of books I'm going to post-up with and keep track of them way before I actually sign up, which allows me the time to check up on them etc. For what its worth, I can't see putting them on that list.

I would actually find that incredibly hard to believe, that he would say that to you. Particularly if it is who I think it is now.

These "old school" guys need to stay off the phone and away from the customers. It's certainly bad for business.

So who's possibly buying out Canbet?

I'm shocked that those words would have been said!

We all 'chuck a wobbly' sometimes i suppose.

Sleep deprivation could be a factor as any Aussie who follows/bets US sports knows -- 1pm EST = 3am Australian Eastern time! I know how tough it can be going to work after such a night.

            Fred,

Canbet works on a US time type of deal, anyway.

            Buying Canbet? Speculating?

That to me still sounds like much more a customer reaction than a management one (unless a used car salesman or a bank), particularly here.

Imagine how that story, if true, would go over in a time with anti-gambling noises being made?

                good point AV2

however Canbet employees still have to live Australian time even though they work US time

no excuse for such rudeness though -- if it's true it's disappointing

I think the sale of Canbet is a done deal. This year I've seen more bet options, lines post early, higher limits, etc. The previous owner was much more conservative.

                    Aussie,
I have 11 offshores I am dealing with now and I am surprised at you for doubting me. For I feel I have a pretty good rep on most of these boards.(Just like you) And just like you I was shocked to hear this guy talk to me like that . If you know who it is call him and ask about me he will know who I am and the situation. Unless he actually does talk to everyone like that. And as far as canbet being for sale if you call it speculation it was from there employees I heard that from.
Sportshobby said it best "These old school guys need to stay off the phone and away from customers" And the only reason I posted this here is I read on another topic where canbet replied to a player's question but still have not answered Reno's.

                          Krack

It appears the representative from Canbet chose to address only what they wanted to address.

If whoever is running that show didn't take advantage of refuting or explaining away your appalling experience then I have to slam down the gavel and say GUILTY!!!. With an attitude like that at the top they won't have my average initial post up of 20 grand to work with.

                            Dot,
I noticed that right away and agree "If whoever is running that show didn't take advantage of refuting or explaining away your appalling experience then I have to slam down the gavel and say GUILTY!!!. "

I have used Canbet as one of my outs since October 1997.During that time I have received about 10 or 12 payouts, ranging from $3500 to $9000 each. All but two were received the next day.One took two days and one took eleven. They said it was a clerical error, and I believe. The only American I know of is guy named Pat,with a Chicago accent and a friendly and professional manner. He moved the lines and did me favors on more than one occasion.I think he has recently moved to Southeast Asia to pursue new endeavors. Before I completely stray from the topic, I imagine this rude person must be with the new management.Whether he was tired, drunk, had a fight with his girlfriend or just got up on the wrong side of the bed, I would withdraw my humble percentage of cash I have allocated to this account.None of us deserve such treatment or attitude. However,to repeat,I have never been subjected to this shabby treatment. P.S.when I first posted up with them,I received a $1200 bonus on my $8000 if I recall correctly. Here is hoping all the Australians working there keep up their friendly service.
