Reality, thanks for the info! Only downside to my arrangement is I have to play every game and every total for an equal amount with both offices, and they DO make changes. Still believe I have big advantage!

      sorry for my political uncorrectedness

actually, a scalp is the same thing as a
middle. It's usually used when middling
a money line. Example, you get Atlanta
at -150 and find a line on the other
team of +155. Bet both sides and you
have gained +5 in profit no matter who
      wins.

People do the same thing in day trading,
where they get two different prices on
the same commodity. That is called
      arbitrage.

It all goes under the same heading though...
shopping for value. Modern america is
      founded on this principle....reselling,
      the middleman, cost abovee invoice....it's
all the basic same thing with different
      terminology.

To me it's not really handicapping, but
allot of people seem to enjoy middling
more than betting on the one side only. Less
risk to be sure, especially over the short
run. As far as what you have to do, instead
of poring over statistics, you will be searching for price differences at sportsbooks, something that has changed
      significantly during the 90's.
      WHITE SHOES,

With all due respect to say scalping and middling is the same thing as comparing apples and oranges they are two different fruits.

In a game where the Yankees are -65 on a median price a SCALPER would be looking for an out where say the Yankees were -77 and -63.
The scalper would then lay -63 with the one out and take +67 with the second out.
The scalp here being 4 cents if the dog wins.
It is called scalping because the scalper risks nothing and he can only earn if the dog wins.
The scalper dosen't even pay for the call which is toll-free.
Bm's despise players who only scalp because they risk nothing and only incur higher communications cost for the Bm.
They do however welcome their everday players to take advantage of this opportunity if for no other reason than to keep them in the game longer by making them earn.
The MIDDLER on the other hand is a different breed of cat.
He is laying 11/10 on his bets in an attempt to middle a point spread event as outlined above in my post to Scott.
Bm's welcome and respect MIDDLERS for two reasons.
a.They create business by buying back and allowing a number to be reduced and attractive to the betting public so that i will be bet again thus creating volume.
b.The middler is laying 11/10 to play this game while the scalper risks nothing.

This scene belongs in a movie.
Twelve guys the best of friends are enjoying a great meal in a restaurant in Vegas.
These 12 guys are tougher than a $4.99 steak at Sizzler's in the world of gambling.
Six of these guys do nothing but scalp.
The other six were a mix of Bm's and bettors who also middle.
As the drinks went down you could see the handwriting on the wall as the random seating changed as the after dinner drinks were starting to come, suddenly the six sissy scalpers were on one side of the table and the macho middlers were on the other.
The battle between these boys made my dissagreement with another poster in this forum look like a day at the beach.
That is really how intense it is is regards to this subject among die hard players and Bm's who are taxi-tested tough.
One last word for anyone who middles,if you are on the right side of a game at the original number only play the other side for 67% of your original bet it will help you overcome the 11/10.
Example:If you bet $1,500 on the right side at the original number only play the other side for a$1,000.
      GOOD LUCK

There's nothing better than a middle bettor
getting the better of other bettor's when
his bet lands in the MIDDLE!

Reality, As an everyday player who shops his lines it is only natural to run across middles and scalps along the way, it sure helps the bankroll to pound a few when they arise. When you say your on the "right side" of a play, I assume you mean the line before it moved. Sometimes there may not even be a line move and many shops just have square numbers on totals and public teams. Determining the "right side" is not always easy, but can always use pointers that help with that determination.

Middling corporate LV books creates the apex of gaming highs to me. Just knowing that these toilets have to pretty much pay or refund both sides, plus pay expenses make the juices flow.

                  RANDY,

When I was refering to the right side what I meant was the side the ORIGINATOR of the STEAM play was playing.
The RIGHT NUMBER refers to the price the originators are willing to lay to fill their order.
If your serious about trying to middle this is the only thing I can tell you ,find some slow outs who pay and subscribe to the Don Best premium service.
When see the change going across the Don Best,it will look like a black picket fence, dial away and see who you can catch.
Be patient dont fill in the other side right away, the followers will inflate the price, the true at heart fans, most likely will finish the job and when you believe the price is as inflated as it will get, make your move.
As I stated above I suggest you play the COLD side for 67% of what you got down for this will help cover the juice,
Bm's are fond of the saying 11 is bigger than 10 refering to the 11/10 you have to put up to play this game.
A prolonged dry spell before you catch a middle will make your bankroll disappear faster than jumbo gulf shrimp at a Las Vegas buffet!
