  • Dunes Sportsbook...a report.

I recently had occasion to visit with the managers and staff of the Dunes Sportsbook, a new book that picqued my interest in that it took an inventive and intelligent way to market themselves and that was to ask us, the players, what it was that we wanted to see in a sportsbook.

I was very impressed with what I saw of the operation and from what I learned of the background of the people managing this new operation. I'm pretty good at separating fantasy from reality and from what I saw, smelled, and heard, I felt secure enough to open an account with them before I left and took advantage of their early bonus program of 25% (20% to the first 250 customers plus 5% for mentioning Bettorsworld).

For what it's worth I felt secure enough to open up with them for ten dimes and although it's I've only been betting with them for one day, I believe I've made the right decision.

They seem like real nice people who know what they're doing. I will report more on them as time progresses, but so far so good.

They are located in an absolutely beautiful part of Costa Rica called Escazu, an absolutely magnificent area which boasts homes and mansions which rivals ones I've seen of movie stars in Beverly Hills, California.

Their marketing representative's name is Samantha and I would ask for her. Their telephone number is 877-600-9116.

        Boomer,
Are you not concerned that if a place offers 25% that you or everyone will eventually get stiffed? When they put that 25% on the books it is basically the same as monopoly money. It will eventually catch up to them.
By the way, I tried to pass on the real identity of Ray Meyers to you here and they took it down, Why? I don't know.

When a book gives you a bonus you got to play to earn it.

            Mr. DeMarco...

I have not figured out quite yet whether you are friend or foe to us gamblers here. That being said your question is a valid one and deserves to be answered.

The staggering costs it takes for a sportsbook just to open its doors and prepare to do business is mind-boggling. Equipment, telephony, bandwidth, etc. etc. etc. require a tremendous amount of capital before one penny is generated in revenue.

Add to that the cost it takes to attract a client base using traditional and now internet advertising methods and you are talking about a very significant piece of change before dime one is generated. And unlike traditional small businesses, there is an element of luck involved
that are unique in this type of endeavor.

More so than in most other type of businesses, the overhead marches on mercilessly from day one. The Dunes followed an approach I would use myself if I had the resources or desire to be on the other side of the counter. I would get as many clients in as soon as possible in the hopes that my monthly negative bottom line turned from red to black relatively quickly.

They followed a program where they chose to reward the newest customers with the highest bonuses in the hopes that they could achieve profitability sooner rather than later. Only the first 250 people will get this highest bonus, the next 250 will get a lower one, and the next 500 a lower one, at which time, if they are very fortunate, they could achieve that elusive black ink and match others in bonus offerings.

What is more important to me is two things: 1) are they well-capitalized and 2) do they have good intentions. I came away from my meeting with them feeling the answers to both my questions was yes.

And as I said before, I put my money where my mouth is and I am not a crybaby if I am wrong. As everyone knows, I've been wrong before, but I feel very good about these people. Just a gut feeling, but remember, I did get to meet them face to face. Something I did not have the luxury of with others in the past.

I promise, as I always have, I will report my experiences here in Bettorsworld, good, bad, or ugly.

The only positive thing that people say about gamblers which I always doubt is we are all INTELLIGENT. Now I am really convinced. Well said BOOMA'!!!!
