bsky2-In another thread you stated Bob Martin was dead and gone. He is very much alive and still as sharp( and humerous ) as ever. Scotty

Scott, I believe--and correct me if I'm wrong--that Roxy took over over for Bob Martin around 1983. Did you notice any difference in how well you did as a BM when the change was made? I remember talking to Lem Banker once, and he felt that Roxy's numbers were stronger and tougher for him to beat. Do you agree?

Reno- When I took over the Stardust in 1983 Roxy had 4 accounts in Reno and none in LV. I gave Roxy a shot from day one. I also gave him the main chair on the Dust radio show(covers 14 states). He did a great job for us and it was all he needed to break into the business. It was a natural for both of us. We used his #s along with our own and several other sources. He in turn used our #s after they had been bet into to shade his before he sent them out. We of course opened up to the World with those virgin #s. It was no place for the faint of heart as you know. You were there. It was bookmaking in its purist form. The rest used our flattened out #s and most moved on air. Jack Lysight, Gene Mayday, and a couple others also moved on action but they were the exceptions. Roxy sold his company for many millions and is now retired. We remain good friends. He had this to say about me in a magazine: " The big turnaround for me was December 1983 when the Sam Boyd Group took over the Stardust and Scotty Schettler became race sports book director. Scotty had a lot of faith in me and I'm glad he did. The two people most responsible for what I have done are Chris and Scotty." Chris is Chris Andrews of the Cal-Neva in Reno. There is lots more as you know Reno. Mabey later. - Scotty

BigMoney-All three but the whatever involves a project combining sports betting & disseminating free sports information. You will all benefit from it. All of the ideas I introduced were player oriented, increased handle and therefore helped the house/bookmaker/player. Its still possible but quickly becoming obsolete. The lottery where everyone had an equal shot at the opening #s, the added games, the unique schedule and the handicapping library stand out. Somebody should combine them all again only on the Net. BigMoney, I enjoy your posts & opinions. They are productive $ informitive.Scotty
