Since the Wizard Of Odds Sportsbooks left the Dominican Republic overnight without paying its employees does anyone know where they went?

  • #2
It makes you wonder if there will eventually be any good books left in the DR. Actually, if Wiz of Odds shows up somewhere else and continues operating (paying, of course), this could be a big plus for them. I hear only negatives about the place from the standpoint of players and books alike.

What I meant was that I've heard only negatives about the location (DR) for sportsbook operation. I wasn't implying anything negative about Wiz of Odds.

After living in the DR for 16 years I can tell you it is no different than any other country. If you try to operate a business without a license you will have problems. This brings up the only problem that the WODs had. They were not licensed to do business in the DR.

Why was Wizard of Odds recommended by Bettorsworld if they were not even licensed?!?

Robert: Please explain who you are and what evidence you have for your accusations.

Anyone else know more about this situation?

I have had nothing but positive experiences in two years with Wizard of Odds.

I zeroed out my account after the football season ended, so I have no money at risk with them currently, but I'm still curious to know more about what is going on with them, good or bad.

              MLS....two points......

One, a license isn't a prerequesite to being on this site, or being reputable. I can send you to half a dozen street books that have been paying clients for 20 years. While there are some licenses out there now that I would put merit in, there are also many that I would not. Some of the most reputable sportsbooks in the world are in Costa Rica.....yet ANYONE can set up shop there.

Two.......who we, Bettorsworld, feel is worth doing business with, can be found at the bottom of this page, as well as on the "list". This list changes as we see fit. It has changed within the last month, and is current. It's worth a look.

First, I want to make it clear that I am not suggesting there was anything wrong with the wizard of odds in relation to its clients. Since I worked for them from the very beginning I can say to my knowledge they did pay their clientele. What I am referring to is the fact that they did not have a license in the Dominican Republic although they repeatedly said they did.

Second, they did experience problems in the DR but these problems were due to the fact that they did not pay for a license.

Third, I for one was not paid what was owed me by the company as an employee. When they left there was not one word said to me about them leaving.

I would just like to know where they are so I can get paid what is owed me.

robert, I hope you get whatever is owed to you. We'll post info if/when we find out.

I'm curious whether you knew at the time you were working at WoOdds that there were licensing issues.

Maybe you're right that the DR is no different from other countries, when it comes to hosting sportsbooks. All I know is that there have been multiple instances over the past few years of sportsbooks fleeing by night to other locations. And how many of the books advertising here are from there?

Robert, you say you don't know "where they went." What's the mystery? I just picked up the phone this evening and called the same number Wizard has always had and they answered immediately. They told me they're in Curacao, and that they've been up and running for business continuously--no break for the move. They claim they stiffed no employees, and that they weren't even aware of this thread and these allegations until I called.

As for why they moved and any other details, I'll leave that up to them to explain if they choose to respond in this forum. But, it certainly seems like they did not disappear, and that it's pretty much business as usual, just in a different location. If that's not the case, I guess we'll find out soon enough.

If, if fact, they moved to Curacao this is a BIG improvement over the Dominica Republic!

I have check out if they went to Curacao and have not been able at this time to get true varification of this. But I'm having the government offices check on this for me.

I don't know if Curacao is a better location or not. And the fact that they left the Dominican Republic is not an issue with me either.

Did I know if they were licensed while working for them. When I began working for them they had the old license of Rich's Superbook until Nov of 1998 when it expired. Although, repeatlly stating that they were licensed they had failed to renew the license and thus was visited by the authorities concerning this issue. Still refusing to take care of the matter correctly caused problems beyond reason. It is for this reason I terminated my relationship with them.

After which they owed me for my last weeks work plus bonus under Dominican law. For more then two months I waited for them to make good their promise to pay me.

I did not discover they at left until the day afterward.

If they are in Curacao I will know before the end of the day. Thanks for tip.
