  • You Guys Are Kidding Yourselves.....

    Guys,

...If you think that the books got buried.

It's very interesting to read how so many people are worried about the fact the books would have gotten killed in the super bowl. I think a lot of people should look in the mirror and just tell the truth.

I admit I lost a bunch because of buying the Rams a few times at WSEX at 7.5.

Yes, some books might have lost a little the way the spread was 6.5/7, but what about all of the suckers who play the OVER/UNDER?

How many people parlay a team with the OVER? Everywhere I look, people say give me team X and the OVER. You know it is hard for most people to bet the under. It's hard enough picking a winner, yet everyone does parlays and teasers galore. They are SUCKER bets. It's like all the talk about PENNY STOCKS. Sure, you hit one in a million and everyone boasts about it. What about all the money that was poured down the toilet chasing these PENNY STOCKS. Unless you have inside INFO, you're KIDDING Yourselves.

Why do you think they put up so many PROPS on the Super Bowl? There are a lot of dummies out there. The vig is high, but what the hell.

Everyone I KNOW, BUYS A CAR RIGHT ABOVE DEALER COST. No one ever pays even a decent markup for a car. I don't know how they can even pay the salesman, manager or anyone involved at the dealer with the GREAT prices that everyone pays for a car. I guess the owner of the dealership is a nice guy who doesn't want to make a profit. He gives everyone the BEST deal as I hear it.

Most people that read these posts will have made a wager or two on the Super Bowl from yesterday.

I WOULD LIKE A FAVOR. WHAT I WOULD LIKE IS FOR RESPONSES TO THIS POST TO TELL THE TRUTH and say how you did yesterday(NOT telling in exact dollars), whether you bet straight up, props, interactive, etc. and where you won or lost.

I think this would be helpful to a lot of the readers to this Forum.

    Thanks,
    Best of Luck,
    Groz

simple - bet Rams -5.5 and -6.5 - why do it at -7.5?

Parlays? No thanks, except very rarely for entertainment

Groz, I think you're very right. Searching for value is a chore for most people. There is however a small group who search for value in every facet of life. If not taken to extremes, that trait can be admirable. I have learned through years of mediocrity in football betting that there is little if any real value in
betting it, especially in the playoffs. As for this Superbowl, I had Titans +7 1/2 over at VC, which I believe was available for quite some time. Hope many of you took it as well.

Intertops had Ram -6 1/2 all week at -105.

Not many internet gamblers don't know about Intertops.

Based on Intertops own estimates they lost close to $1 million on the Super Bowl (a whole months profits for their casino!).

I know of no one who lost their straight bet - the 50% that liked the Rams had them at - 6 1/2 at either Intertops or Carib. Those lines were available all week.

Most casino pushed - but Intertops, Carib, and Victor Chandler all lost heavily (of course, they liked their side and were simply gambling just like us but on a MUCH larger corporate scale!).

I doubt many Vegas bettors won - but then
-6 1/2 wasn't available in Vegas. But there was gold on the internet!

Groz, I agree with some of your comments about penny stocks and car dealers. I must say that I don't understand the bias against prop bets, however. What makes a prop bet with a 20 cent line any WORSE than the side? I also would say that the only thing "sucker" about parlays is that they suck you dry when you are losing. If you hit >52.38% they will make you more $ than flat bets will over time. The "sucker" part is that MOST players don't hit >52.38% over time, so they should avoid them for that reason.

I won with STL-6.5@ITOPS and a number of props I found that I considered to be better value than the side( 5-2 on props ). I agree that the books likely made money off of props and totals and parlays, but I believe the side gets more action and they expect a big profit all around.

you don't think a book like i-tops that caters to the small, unsophisticated players who are likely to only have one out, took some tn $$$$? if they were getting it that heavy on stl, they would have moved the line.

MLS, I didn't wager on the game, but I was constantly looking at the odds at a book that booked the game live, right up until the final whistle. It was interesting just looking at how the odds were changing throughout. This means that next year I will have the hang of things and be able to make some live wagers.

BTW, where do you get the figures like 1M loss? Are they publicly disclosed?

I was told my the manager of another book in Antigua that Intertops took in about $1.4 million and lost about $1 million on the Super Bowl. (this sounds right as Intertops advertised on its website that they expected to "pay out $1 million on the Super Bowl").

Intertops therefore took in FAR more money at -6 1/2 than it took in at +6 1/2.

It was something of a position (they liked Tennessee) and a marketing idea (they added over 1000 new accounts).

Intertops can afford it as I have heard their profit is about $1 million/mo (mostly from their online casino - I do not know if that includes their Austria operation.)

I waited until Friday and then bet St. Louis at Intertops at -6.5. The payout moved from -105 to -106, but I bet in $8 increments which returned $8, so in effect even money. There's no way I would have gone with Rams -7.5.

I bet 7 props at $20 per pop. Real long shots like high scoring and wide margins of victory and...no TD at Olympic at 250:1 (yes i was getting excited). I lost them all.

I had middles on the first and second halves plus the 1st and 4th quarters which did not hit (could have used a STL FG instead of that late TD). Lost juice.

I hit my big 3 to 7 middle on the side of the game.

                    Over all finished up.

would still like to have seen no TD's though

i bet the money line at go sports at +220. i think the props are for fun and thats it. i showed my wife the list of props and asked her to pick one...she is not a gambler.....so she picked a score in the first 6:25 of the game..-140....u saw what happened with the mishandled hold when the rams went for the first 3 points of the game. at that moment she felt our pain. she had it spent....my props

Mcnair to score first points of game +950..L
                      that was fun...not.......good luck.bighands

Since none of us have any shares in the books, who cares if the books made money or lost money on the game. You win some, you lose some - that's the nature of the business. By sticking with a reputable book, you know you will be paid and the book will still be operating and that's all that matters.

Two years back, Denver beat Green Bay in the Super Bowl and the books got slaughtered. But at last check, Intertops, WSEX, Bowman's, SOS, WWTS etc. were all still alive and well and doing fine.

So stop sweating it. If you bet with Joe's discount sportsbook out of Timbuktu then you should be worrying.
