  • A message from The Wagering Director of betmaker.com

THE FOLLOWING IS A MESSAGE FROM ROXY THE BETMAKER BOOKMAKER:

The one apology I have no problem giving is to anyone to whom I have been less than courteous. There is no excuse for that.

I am an extremely intense and passionate individual, in regards to my position here as the Wagering Director of betmaker.com. Sometimes it carries over in the heat of battle. For this I truly apologize. I ask that you try to understand some of the things that I deal with every single day.

Customers who ask “why do you claim to have Vegas lines when the Mirage has Auburn –4 ½ and you have Auburn –5 ½”, I ask for you to refer to a Bettorsworld article on 11/12/99 “Betmaker.com Some Fact, Some Fun”.

If you start out being rude to me, you have no shot.

If you get nasty with one of my operators, you have no shot.

If you start cursing in the course of our conversation, you have no shot.

Today, a gentleman called and wanted to get paid 600-1 on his 10 team parlay because the 10th team’s game was postponed and won the next day. He called as a gentleman and I responded as a gentleman, explaining how the rules work in regard to his situation. I hope that he posts on Bettorsworld and relays the story himself.

I have, on numerous occasions, spoke with customers on various topics that they had questions on, during off hours. You just would not believe the questions some customers demand answered with 5 minutes to post.

In conclusion, to anyone that I have offended in this manner, please accept my sincerest apologies.

Now, in regards to “wiseguy” players, there is no apology forthcoming here. I have absolutely no problem in inviting them out for the following reasons:

In baseball, when my lines get high, I purposely let my everyday players take +65 with a dog and lay –62 somewhere else. Why?? Because they play me 365 days a year and if they can scalp 3 cents on a game for their pocket, that is one of the perks for our everyday clients.

As a professional, why would I allow someone to post up $50,000 and just play me when he can scalp not only me, but also my regular players, who I want to scalp the game. Once he plays, the number moves. Now the “everyday player” doesn’t get the same benefit that the “wiseguy” does. Furthermore, I most probably could go out and lay the game at –58, with commission no less.

In regards to pointspread sports, I would never post “we reserve the right not to pay wiseguy or syndicate players” because this is just a license not to pay someone who wins.

I am just as professional as the “wiseguy” on the other side of the counter, trying to beat me. If I can’t identify him as a “wiseguy” after one weeks play, I deserve to get beat.

Furthermore, why do I need “wiseguys” coming in trying to beat the screen and, in essence, my regular, everyday customers. They deserve to be able to play at reasonable numbers, not the adjusted numbers after the “wiseguys” play.

I have no problem with players who play the “steam” with me because they also give me their other plays. We have a large number of players in the house, with 5 figures in their account, who fall into this category.

I will not allow betmaker.com, and the regular players of betmaker.com, to be the victim of “wiseguy” players who will only play the “steam” when they can beat the move. If I did, I would be doing both of us a disservice.

At betmaker.com, the player with $100 in his account is just as important, if not more so, than the individual with the big balance. They are the clients who were instrumental in propelling betmaker.com to who and what we are today.

I am a professional and, as such, run the wagering department here as professionally as I can. I have no opinions on games. That is not my job. My job is to post a line that will draw an equal amount of action on both sides and, when one side is bet, I adjust the line.

I devote all of my energy and intellectual capacity to this end. Why?? Because as long as I keep doing my job to the best of my abilities, the clients at betmaker.com can keep wagering with the full confidence that tomorrow, when they call or go online, betmaker.com will be here to service them.

Again, to anyone that I might have offended in the past, please accept my apology.

I swore that after I wrote “betmaker.com Some Facts, Some Fun” I would never post again, because to do my job the way that I do it requires all of my time.

To those posters who required me to make this post, I surrender. But frame this one because it is my last…

Whatever your sport, whatever your season, I hope you find it to be to your liking

    Sincerely,

    The Wagering Director
    betmaker.com

face - i am not sure if this is directed to me and my earlier complaint, nor am i sure if i talked to you but i know i wasn't rude to you or your clerks and i didn't swear. just tried to get some info.
btw, that sounds more like a list of excuses justifying your behavior than an apology.
also, why are you so close-minded to communication in an open forum?

      Parlay,

I should have expressed this in the first post. That was from The Wagering Director here, at betmaker.com. He does not have his own login name, so he used mine. I would be more than happy to help you or anybody else who would like to call and express their views. His response was an apology to you and any others whom he might have been rude to, as well as express his opinion on what has been said in this forum. If you would like, call 888-238-2238 (888-bet2bet) and ask for Jake.

Face - We customers (good or bad) make the business "EXIST". You just have to deal with it.

Betmaker, is the two-line policy only used on point-spread bets, or moneylines and other bets as well.

Also, is it strictly on NBA/NFL/NHL, or doesn it encompass other sports like Soccer or Tennis?

I would also like to commend you on posting your policies here, though I must say that a double-line does not seem to be advantageous to anyone but the sportsbook itself.

I think the post from the betting manager at betmaker is a little difficult to understand. I found it tough to follow and so I called Jake at betmaker with the number he left above and has assured me that they do not use a double line. The same line is given to both wiseguys and regular players. Although this is not what I understood from the post above, it does seem to try to justify using a second line, I was told much more clearly over the phone their policy on this issue. I suggest to anyone that either has an account or is thinking of opening an account over at betmaker, that they give Jake a call as he has suggested and speak to him about their policies.

jake - i appreciate the response and dealt w/you when i opened the acct. i'm sure if everyone was like you, i wouldn't have complained.
my problem with the apology is it is less than an apology and very generic. i have no problem w/someone losing their cool under certain circumstances. if he said hey parlay, that was me you talked to about the moneyline on the bucs and i am sorry i lost my cool but i had dealt w/a bunch of idiots earlier in the day and my patience was gone.

i would have said thank you and been impressed. as i said, i'm not sure who i talked to or if that apology had anything to do w/my rant. but if it did, i would never know it. i have been busy and i will contact you this week as i want to resolve this.

thanks for your time and your response.

Most people would say that I'm a pretty fair individual. Opinionated? Yes, but also fair. I have reached the point whereby the old "The other guy used my Login to post" axiom has reached a threshold. Whether it is actually true or just an excuse makes no difference. Personally speaking, I guard my Login name and password like I do my ATM PIN# and my SS#. Nobody except myself knows it and nobody ever will. I've spent alot of hours developing a "persona" associated with the moniker Junior44 in this forum and around the web. Whether an individual perceives me as being genuine, honest, and sharp or an utter incompetent bafoon makes no difference. Because the real "me" has been projected through cyperspace and it's association is my moniker, Junior44. With the absence of any verbal and physical communication, this is the best I can do to help people learn about me. However, for me, and many others, login names, monikers (whatever you want to call them) are tied to nothing else but a personality. If I don't like the way my personality is being perceived, I can suddenly become Tony299 tommorow. In other words, it doesn't have much effect on my livelihood. Which leads me to my main point. How in the world can a sportsbook manager, wagering director, accounts coordinatior, or anybody else with a stake in the business allow one's login name to be used by anybody but themselves. I am in no way singling out betmaker, I see this happen all the time. If it's me, and I have a financial interest in a business, and I'm posting my thoughts in a forum, at a site that has as much influence in the industry as this one does, I better be damn sure that the janitor down the hall, or a bitter ex-employee isn't making claims and statements on my behalf. How many "faces" are we dealing with in THIS situation? Probably not as many as some of the fire-breathing Hydras we've seen in the past, but for Christ's sake, it takes 30 seconds to get a Login name and password....What's the problem? Sorry for the long, negative essay but I need to get that off my chest.

                  Gentlemen,

I feel the need to clear up some issues. Yesterday, Roxy, our Wagering Director came to me and asked me to post a response that he had written. I was glad to do it as he did not have a login name, nor did he want to get one, as he was not going to post again. Junior44, I posted the message on his behalf. I am not making any excuses for any of the statements that Roxy made, in fact I back them up. My post yesterday was just to clear that up, and I apologize if it seemed as though I was using the "it wasn't me, it was just some overzealous employees" excuse. That was not the case. I posted for him as a matter of convenience.
Aus12, thank you for giving me a call and allowing me to clear the air. I would be more than happy to talk to any of you regarding this, or any other issue that you may have with betmaker.com. Our phone number is 888-238-2238 (888-bet2bet). Just ask for Jake.
Parlay, I look forward to hearing from and resolving this situation.

Best of luck on the Super Bowl,

Books have customer service departments for just this reason, the lines manager shouldn't be dealing with the customers. By the same token, a lines man is not hired or successful because of his PR skills. Why the big out cry over this guy?

INTHEKNOW hit the nail on the head. The linemaker should not be on the phone discussing issues with clients especially at crunch time, especially not at a place like Betmaker.com

Roxy on the phone with clients at this pivotal time is like a pilot taking airline reservations as his plane is in the process of crashing.

                        Sting,

Roxy says that that is the perfect analogy of this situation.

Only problem is that he is laughing so hard that he can't get himself off the floor and back into his chair...

Have a great Super Bowl everybody. Good luck and, most importantly, have fun!

Well, no problems with betmaker customer service so far, that is for sure. Answer email very promptly, and their liveperson online webchat help is very cool.

Jake helped me out when a bet got messed up due to not understanding website/bugs etc., and they didn't technically have to, so that was excellent. Full points there so far.

tennis so far, I only looked at one match at the odds were reasonable, so no idea if they will do all tournaments

soccer odds very good - reasonable percentage of my list from this week had best odds at betmaker
