THE FOLLOWING IS A MESSAGE FROM ROXY THE BETMAKER BOOKMAKER:
The one apology I have no problem giving is to anyone to whom I have been less than courteous. There is no excuse for that.
I am an extremely intense and passionate individual, in regards to my position here as the Wagering Director of betmaker.com. Sometimes it carries over in the heat of battle. For this I truly apologize. I ask that you try to understand some of the things that I deal with every single day.
Customers who ask “why do you claim to have Vegas lines when the Mirage has Auburn –4 ½ and you have Auburn –5 ½”, I ask for you to refer to a Bettorsworld article on 11/12/99 “Betmaker.com Some Fact, Some Fun”.
If you start out being rude to me, you have no shot.
If you get nasty with one of my operators, you have no shot.
If you start cursing in the course of our conversation, you have no shot.
Today, a gentleman called and wanted to get paid 600-1 on his 10 team parlay because the 10th team’s game was postponed and won the next day. He called as a gentleman and I responded as a gentleman, explaining how the rules work in regard to his situation. I hope that he posts on Bettorsworld and relays the story himself.
I have, on numerous occasions, spoke with customers on various topics that they had questions on, during off hours. You just would not believe the questions some customers demand answered with 5 minutes to post.
In conclusion, to anyone that I have offended in this manner, please accept my sincerest apologies.
Now, in regards to “wiseguy” players, there is no apology forthcoming here. I have absolutely no problem in inviting them out for the following reasons:
In baseball, when my lines get high, I purposely let my everyday players take +65 with a dog and lay –62 somewhere else. Why?? Because they play me 365 days a year and if they can scalp 3 cents on a game for their pocket, that is one of the perks for our everyday clients.
As a professional, why would I allow someone to post up $50,000 and just play me when he can scalp not only me, but also my regular players, who I want to scalp the game. Once he plays, the number moves. Now the “everyday player” doesn’t get the same benefit that the “wiseguy” does. Furthermore, I most probably could go out and lay the game at –58, with commission no less.
In regards to pointspread sports, I would never post “we reserve the right not to pay wiseguy or syndicate players” because this is just a license not to pay someone who wins.
I am just as professional as the “wiseguy” on the other side of the counter, trying to beat me. If I can’t identify him as a “wiseguy” after one weeks play, I deserve to get beat.
Furthermore, why do I need “wiseguys” coming in trying to beat the screen and, in essence, my regular, everyday customers. They deserve to be able to play at reasonable numbers, not the adjusted numbers after the “wiseguys” play.
I have no problem with players who play the “steam” with me because they also give me their other plays. We have a large number of players in the house, with 5 figures in their account, who fall into this category.
I will not allow betmaker.com, and the regular players of betmaker.com, to be the victim of “wiseguy” players who will only play the “steam” when they can beat the move. If I did, I would be doing both of us a disservice.
At betmaker.com, the player with $100 in his account is just as important, if not more so, than the individual with the big balance. They are the clients who were instrumental in propelling betmaker.com to who and what we are today.
I am a professional and, as such, run the wagering department here as professionally as I can. I have no opinions on games. That is not my job. My job is to post a line that will draw an equal amount of action on both sides and, when one side is bet, I adjust the line.
I devote all of my energy and intellectual capacity to this end. Why?? Because as long as I keep doing my job to the best of my abilities, the clients at betmaker.com can keep wagering with the full confidence that tomorrow, when they call or go online, betmaker.com will be here to service them.
Again, to anyone that I might have offended in the past, please accept my apology.
I swore that after I wrote “betmaker.com Some Facts, Some Fun” I would never post again, because to do my job the way that I do it requires all of my time.
To those posters who required me to make this post, I surrender. But frame this one because it is my last…
Whatever your sport, whatever your season, I hope you find it to be to your liking
Sincerely,
The Wagering Director
