  • Payout capers...

Man, I must be having a real bad stretch dealing with sportsbooks... but trust me, I would much rather have only nice things to say.

Don't know about other players, but I've requested payouts twice from Bowmans and they have a 100% record of sending me useless cheques in the wrong currency. Over and over I make sure that they get it right and yet once the envelope arrives I'm left with a useless piece of paper.

First time, I sent it back and then finally got me one in the correct currency.

This time, I once again received a bad cheque, and that's after making sure about five times that they get it right this time.

Well, problem is that I needed this cheque by Thursday (today), because I'm flying out. I told them over and over to make sure it's in the correct currency, but to no avail. So when I got the useless one again, I rang up the accounts dept, and I told them about it and that I need a good one by Thursday. Lady tells me "Call customer service in six hours..." So I do just that. They are surprised that she forwarded me to them, and tell me to call her the next day. Makes perfect sense to me.

So I do so. I call up the accounts dept. and explain everything to her, that the customer service guys don't deal with this, and that she is supposed to. "Call customer ser..." - I don't think I need to finish that one! That was all she could say over and over. It was like talking to a brick wall! She was blatantly giving me the run-around. So I ask to talk to her superior - doesn't work. Desperately, I ask to speak to ANYONE else. Finally someone else comes along and tells me the usual "send it back and then we'll send the right one." So I explain that there's no time, that a new one needs to be sent out today (Tuesday) or else it won't reach me by Thursday. I propose that she temporary blocks the same amount of money on my betting account in the meantime, and that when she gets the bad cheque back she can unblock it. Plan gets approved.

Well, it's Thursday now and there's no cheque in sight, so obviously everything was just fruitless in the end. I do hope Gary checks the recorded calls because that first lady was giving me the complete run-aroung, insulting my intelligence. And I can't believe it's impossible to me to talk to her superiors. Still, one of the company's strong points is top-notch customer service, but that's also why individuals like these stand out. The book is solid by all accounts, no pun intended. It's just that I wonder how people like her are even allowed to speak to customers, yet alone mislead them. Second lady was fine, but in the end her assurances never materialied.

Oh yeah, before I forget, the line for my next payout is -500 for bad cheque, +300 for good cheque - steep line leaning towards the favourite with the 100% record. All bets are 'push' if account goes bankrupt.

Anyone else have any good/bad payout experiences with this otherwise solid book?

If a sportsbook sends you a bad check, no matter its wrong currency or the check bounced back, its the fault of the book.

    They should,

    a) appologize to you.

    b) send the money as fast as possible to you again, eg. by Western Union, and they SHOULD PAY all the costs.

Couple months ago, I asked a payout from Sportingbet, they sent me a check 1st and then told me the check will bounce because of the banking system problem.

They appologized to me and resend the money by WU and they paid the cost.

    Straight and simple.

      Cons,

Dunno, call the police and turn them in for writing bad cheques? Isn't that what business would do to you?

Cons I doubt seriously that Bowman's would purposely send you a cheque in the wrong currency. My guess is that your account was set up wrong and the miles of red tape are making it hard to adjust.

In the meantime where is Steve Rapp, maybe he can straighten this out.

Ray, I agree. I told them my deadline, everything seemed alright. Today, there's no check, so the case drags on...

Hartley, I don't think they're doing it on purpose. It's just annoying as they have a 100% record of doing it. Getting the run-around was what really bothered me. And failure to deliver of course... I'm not worried about not getting paid, that's not a problem with this book. But most books I'm with or planning on joining within the next few weeks will get me a cheque to my front door in 48h tops. And they'll be cheques I can use.

AV, call the cops? I wouldn't call the cops on anyone, unless there was a chainsaw-wielding maniac at my front door... I don't believe in getting the corrupt idiots in blue involved in anything...

I had a similar situation with a customer when I was running a book. I sent one of my employees to the bank with a bunch of Fed-Ex envelopes to pick up the checks we had ordered from the bank that morning, and all she had to do was get the right checks in the right envelopes and drop them off at Fed-Ex, well two checks got mixed up. One customer didn't mind, because he had been losing that day and it was easier to leave his money in his account, but the second customer needed his money, so at my expense I Western Unioned him the funds first thing the next morning. If the Sports Book Made the mistake and you need the money, that is what should have been done for you. That is called "Customer Service" and in the long run, that is what makes for good business relations with your customers.

Two times--once from SOS and once from Skybook--I had someone else's check sent to me and mine sent to them. In both cases, the problem was expeditiously corrected. It just goes to show that no matter how simple a task is--in this case sticking the right check in the right envelope--human beings will somehow eventually find a way to screw it up.
