  • ANY CONCERNS ABOUT Y2K ?

Any one here at all concerned about what has been done to safegard posted monies off-shore with Y2K creeping upon us??

Any sports books out there stepping forward to assure us there will be no problems and monies will be guaranteed and protected in event of "computer calamity"

I think this is something we should all begin thinking about. There can be a lot ill people if suddenly you are informed computers crashed and no records of anything are available. I'm not a computer expert but is there some people out there that can address this concern?

Dot Mix-Excellent Topic. The Wizard of Odds implemented its Y2K upgrade during the summer. As well as making the upgrade we also do a double back-up daily. With confidence we are reassuring our customers that NO information will be lost. When measuring the value of the business I can only imagine that all sportsbooks have prepared for 2000.

Our telephone companies have reassured us that they are prepared for Y2K. Our U.S. Carrier & Codetel (local) which is owned by GTE have completed their necessary upgrades.

If the power goes out-no problem. That is a common occurrence here and our ears have grown fond of the hum of the generator. We have several UPS' (uninterrupted power supplies), voltage regulators, batteries, inverters, and a Detroit Deisel generator with a 500 gallon tank. WE ARE READY.

    Thank you,
    Jennifer

Good question. I think books will back up the data quite consistently and thoroughly during the last days of the millenium.

But then it shouldn't matter since that giant asteroid is less than a month away...

There will be a book somewhere in one of the really obscure places that Ray and I love to find that will crash, guaranteed.

My money's on Fonbet (www.fonbet.ru) to be that book.

        Anyone else?

Then we can always wish for a book to crash and disappear, like the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde NASAs - but only after everyone here has got their money out first......

It would be simple for books to print out a hard copy of customer balances - just in case ...

Well, my money was on several books that are currently operating out of Mia and Southern Cal will get crushed by the feds before the Y2K.

My second bet was on couple Russian books, like Boris had mentioned. Did they still use 286 computers or will it be the old Apple?

And finally my lock of the Y2K will be some books out there crashed after the SBY2K (what a wonderful season it was), or many of them will have a good excuse to delay your withdraws "because of Y2K".

Frankly, I wish all the books will do the same as Jennifer did at here.

It was a clear and nice piece of info.

Send an email to your customers with info like this will be highly appreciated by most of them.

At least it will be much useful than those promotion garbages.

It could be the perfect time to play Houdini and disappear?

Imagine some obscure book having a few extra days to pack up because of the Y2K excuse, then bolt for Brazil or some non-extradition country, grow a beard and smoke cigars for the next 20 years...

Sounds like a good script for a film...

Thank you for the detailed response . It appears you people have prepared well and professionally to insure no problems sliding into the new year. It's also suprising (maybe not so) that no other books have yet come forward with words of assurance and details of the technical reddiness that all computer dependednt businesses should be concerned with. What do you do when a book says everything was lost due to Y2K and they have no idea whose owed what, or who what money belongs to ? Farfetched? Maybe---maybe not!

I personally have no plans to be sitting on pins and needles come end of year over any sportsbook I'm with that doesn't provide me with details and assurance in the next few days.
