  • U.S. Customs

I was expecting a check today from offshore. When it didn't arrive I got the tracking #. FedEx says the letter has not been released by customs. According to the tracking info, customs has had the letter for 15 hours. It looks like this is just another tactic of the Gov't harassing the sportsbooks and their customers.

        JAMAICA???????

what sportsbook is in JAMAICA? IF I were you, I would switch to one of the books in ANTIGUA. I have been doing business with them for the past 3-4 years and have requested multiple FEDEX payouts(at least 10) with no problems ever. Antigua is the most solid country out of all the island books. WWTS,SOS, PREMIERE, POST TIME, WSEX, with that many choices , why take the chance?
        Just some advice.....

Olympic is in Jamaica, I started an account with them 3 weeks ago but haven't requested a payout yet. Have you received payouts from them before Sheik? Any delay with those?

As far as Customs goes, I would imagine they could hold any package they view as "suspicious", my guess is a german sheppard is giving your package a good sniffing and you'll receive it shortly.

            Dragon Boy,

Forgive me if this comes off wrong but,,,

Why is it that you think the sportsbooks in Antigua are any more solid than the rest. It sounds to me like you have been spouting off on something you have read on the net and now act like some kind of expert.

Sheik has been around this forum for a long time, and is quite sharp. I don't think he needs you to tell him where he should or shouldn't play.

That being said, Olympic is one of the most solid books out there, and yes they are located in Jamaica.

CRIS is located in Costa Rica, and it is solid as well, (shall i go on). The only thing Antigua has going for it is its high license fee, this tends to discourage the fly by nighters.

However if a book from Antigua flees with all its deposits, i can guarantee you that the gov't of Antigua won't reimburse you. Reputation and longevity then becomes the most important aspect in choosing a book, and i can tell you there are a hell of a lot of reputable books outside of Antigua.

Shiek, i wouldn't worry about the package being held in customs. Customs randomly searches a percentage of Fedex (and the like) envelopes. What happens is the package is pulled from the router and then gets searched a little later.

Its not as if the package is pulled and searched right away, usually it goes to a different customs area and is examined there.
I once had a check held for 3 days b/c it fell on a Canadian Holiday and it took awhile before they got around to releasing it. Plus if in the US, Customs isn't employed by the IRS unlike Canada Customs (who work for Revenue Canada, thus you have even less to worry about.

dragonboy, Olympic is as solid as they come. The location is not important since the book has an excellent reputation. Checks always go out the same day. It surprises me that customs would bother pulling a letter for a routine search. I once had a letter from Antigua opened and taped shut by customs but it didn't delay the delivery.

My apologies OLYMPIC , I just never thought there were any books in JAMAICA. Sorry if I jumped the gun. Shifty did not mention which book he was referring to. Ironically, I have an account with you guys but did not know you were stationed in Jamaica. I recalled the customer service was great and lines were good. Never had a chance to request a payout though.

So, does this mean that our finest government has informed the custom,

                        Sportsbook = Drug Dealers

Surely not. The most sold of books aren't based in the Caribbean as a matter of fact. If anywhere offshore, they are based within an hour's flight of London. Trust me.

I do think that Australia has a great infrastructure for sportsbooks. Developed, industrialised country, stable democratic gov't, effective sportsbetting as well as financial regulations in place, and telecommunications second to none (they don't go down in storms...). Climate is great too, and a major international airport (Sydney) also comes provided.

Only thing I'm wondering about is the time-zone, but it must be a lot better than being in Europe.

Still, the heavyweights of the industry will seek asylum in the tax-free haven islands surrounding Britain, since it's close to home, same time zone, same financial infrastructure (all UK banks have branches on these islands), and ideal telecommunications as well. It's basically the same country, the same people, but different tax laws, that's it. It would make no sense for them to move their operations any further out...
